GSX Level 2 FSX Couatl.exe Error
« on: September 13, 2018, 02:58:55 pm »
Hello FsDreamTeam,

I downloaded your new installer for using GSX Level 2. Before I did this everything regarding GSX was running well.

Now the installer Shows most likely at the end of the Installation Routine an error code 0xc0000005 for couatl.exe. Haven´t had this Problem with earlier Versions.

I have installed FSX SP2 Accel, Windows 7 SP1. I downloaded your installer several times, with AV off and also excluding the AddonManager scanning as well.

What do I have to do to get Couatl running and GSX working again?

Looking Forward for help.

The problem is surely the antivirus.

At the end of the installation, the installer starts Couatl in "test mode", to see if it works. The test mode doesn't do *anything* other than just starting, doing nothing and exit.

Since it's not possible a program would crash without having done anything, the only possible reason is the antivirus blocking or corrupting it, trying to "heal" it from a non-existent threat.

You can also try the Couatl test mode manually, by doing this:

- Open a command prompt ( Start->CMD->Enter ) and go to the Addon Manager\Couatl folder

- Type the following:

Couatl.exe --test

If there's a problem with missing system libraries, you might see some kind of error from Windows, saying something about it.

First of all thanks for your help.

Unfortunately this does not help, you can see the error code on the attached picture. Couatl.exe can´t be started. Still error code 0xc0000005.

I use Avast AV, excluded the addon Manager as you´ve suggested. But still this Problem. Missing libraries in Windows?

Missing libraries should give some message about missing libraries. That 0xc0000005 is an access violation, and it looks more like an antivirus problem. Check the file digital signature, by right-clicking the Couatl.exe select Properties->Digital Signature, and see if it's valid.

Yes, it's valid. This confirms only the antivirus hasn't corrupted the file, but cannot guarantee is not blocking the file the moment it tries to start, causing the access violation error 0xc0000005.

Which antivirus you use ?

AVAST Free Antivirus.

I am wondering why couatl worked before with GSX Level 1? I changed nothing except downloading new FSDT installer.

If antivirus makers don't comply to the false-positive prevention standards we use, each time we update our executable, they might assume it's dangerous, just because it's new.

Have you configured the antivirus to exclude the Addon Manager folder from scanning ?

Try to reinstall the VC++ libraries, as explained here:

Nope. Still the same error code as mentioned above. I did everything exactly as it was told in the thread.

If I start fsx another error is showing up. There is a Problem with your third Party add on file addon Manager\bglmanx.dll?! If I decline running the file, FSX runs normally again. But without GSX of course.

My previous Installation of GSx was 1.5.anything as I can remember. Everything ran perfectly. Error occured after Installation of your actual (07.09.2018) download file.

That thread contains all the know solutions to the problem. You might have to restart Windows after reinstalling the VC++ libraries.

This error is usually fixed by running the FSDT Live Update again, which will clear an hidden registry key which cause that message to show up.

The problem doesn't have anything to do with the update. Older GSX version required other versions of the VC++ libraries, the one that might NOT be corrupted/missing in your system so, it seems your problem might be related to one of the recent ones (either 2013 or 2015), used by the more recent version of our software.

So, fact the new GSX is not running and the old one was, is only an indication that a different version of the VC++ runtime has a problem in your Windows installation, the old one didn't.

I deinstalled and installed the VC++ libraries again.

Good news: no indication of Error code 0xc0000005 anymore

Bad news: FSDT Setup gives information that a file is missing (see attached picture).

What does this mean?  sorry virtuali, i´m no IT-Specialist ;)

It means you *almost* fixed it, but not entirely, see here:

Unfortunately this didn´t help. I uninstalled old VC ++ 2015 libraries and downloaded via the link provided, no Windows update was needed. Problem still api-ms-win-crt-runtime...dll

And another error occured. pls see attached file.

Desperating... I don´t know how to get GSx running again.
