VAT for Norway?
« on: April 29, 2013, 01:53:16 pm »
Hi

EU counties have the VAT added to the purchase price. Norway is not a EU member. Why is VAT included here as well?

Regards V

Regardless of the fact that Norway is not an EU member, it's a country that has VAT anyway, so Esellerate correctly applies VAT according to the law in your country. In fact, according to this explanation on Esellerate's site:

http://shopper.esellerate.net/link/portal/5570/5620/Article/366/Why-am-I-being-charged-sales-tax-on-my-purchase

Quote
Note for Customers in Norway:  Norway has enacted a law requiring companies such as eSellerate to collect sales tax on purchases by customers located in Norway, when the orders include electronically-downloaded products.  This tax is separate from VAT (Value Added Tax), which is collected from customers in countries that are part of the EU.

It's not technically called "VAT", but it's a tax nevertheless your country has applied to downloadable products.

Just to be more clear, because sometimes this might not be so obvious:

- You are not buying from us, we are not selling our products: you are buying from Esellerate.

- Taxes, when added, are not "pocketed" by anyone, not us, or Esellerate. According to the law on VAT/Taxes, Esellerate will send all tax money to the state the customer comes from. We are not seeing anything from tax money, we only get to see the net amount, before any sales taxes are added.
