Problems with GSX and Addon Manager for FSX **SOLVED**
« on: December 24, 2013, 02:28:49 pm »
Hi folks!

I also have a major problem installing GSX and the Addon Manager.

First of all, I turned off my Anti-virus-software, then installed the latest GSX (as an administrator). After that I installed the latest Addon Manager (as an administrator as well!), rebooted my PC, started FSX (as an administrator), got the two "warnings", which I confirmed, that Couatl and Addon Manager were allowed to load in FSX. When FSX was started, I selected my plane (PMDG T7) and an airport (KLAX, gate 103). When I "arrived" at the airport, I took a look at my FSX-addons menu. There I only saw:

iFly 737NG, CaptainSim, CaptainSim, Start IvAp, PMDG, FSUIPC, Vista Mare, RAAS Professional and Addon Manager. So, I did NOT see anything as Couatl.

In my Addon Manager (version 2.9.0.14) I only see QualityWings (Ultimate 757 Collection, product in TRIAL mode) and FlightBeam (San Francisco X, Phoenix Sky Harbor - HD and Washington Dulles Intl - HD). None of those programms / addons are installed. But, the worst part is, I do NOT see anything of FSDreamteam. No GSX, no other airports, NOTHING!

What can possibly be wrong here? Please help! I am desperate and eager to have GSX working. Ofcourse I have the LEGAL, bought, version of GSX with the mail from support@virtualisoftware in my mailbox.

Please, HELP!!!!

Btw. Merry Christmas and a very happy new year to all!

got the two "warnings", which I confirmed, that Couatl and Addon Manager were allowed to load in FSX.

Those are not warnings, they are the standard authorization message.

This because it hasn't started, likely because the antivirus.

You have a problem here, which clearly indicate that something has blocked part of the installation. You are supposed to have other publishers, such as Cloud9 and Aerosoft, this indicates some files weren't installed, which is not normal, since they are all included in the installer.

Quote
None of those programms / addons are installed

That's not obviously a problem. You will see all products the Addon Manager can handle, and there will be an indication if they are installed or not.

But, the worst part is, I do NOT see anything of FSDreamteam. No GSX, no other airports, NOTHING!

As explained many times already, disabling the antivirus is not enough, you should do as follows:

- Disable the antivirus during the DOWNLOAD and INSTALLATION

- BEFORE turning it back on, configure it to exclude the following files from scanning

\YourFSXFolder\bglmanx.dll
\YourFSXFolder\fsdreamteam\Couatl\Couatl.exe

- THEN you can finally turn the antivirus back on, and launch FSX

- Be sure you have the "Couatl powered products" menu under the "Addons" menu.

Hi, Virtually,

Thanx for the reply. I did un-install my AVAST (Anti-virus software) completely. Rebooted my pc, de-installed GSX, then de-installed Addon Manager. Downloaded GSX and Addon Manager (still with NO Antivirus).
Rebooted my pc again. Installed GSX as an administrator, installed Addon Manager as an administrator. Rebooted pc again. Started FSX as an administrator, but now I do NOT get the authorization messages. I do NOT have antivirus software installed yet.

In my add-ons menu from FSX I only find Addon Manager, but no Couatl and my Addon Manager shows what is on my earlier screenprint.

This really s*ck my Christmas Feelings. It really is awquard.   :o ???

Follow this to the letter:

- Uninstall GSX. Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine. Reply YES to both questions.

- TURN OFF your antivirus. Don't just exit from its interface, but turn off the real time protection. Actual wording changes between products, however, it's the option to scan every file that gets open in real time, without user intervention.

- Reinstall GSX with the Antivirus TURNED OFF. Don't launch FSX yet.

- Configure the antivirus to exclude the following files from scanning:

YourFSXFolder\bglmanx.dll
YourFSXFolder\fsdreamteam\Couatl\couatl.exe

YourFSXFolder it's usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, if you installed it in the default folder.

- Now you can turn the antivirus back on, and launch FSX.

- NOTE if you ARE being asked permission to run both modules, and of course reply YES.

- Please report if you are NOT being asked permission to run the modules.

- Check you are seeing BOTH the "Addon Manager" menu AND the "Couatl powered products" menu under the "Addons" menu.

As I mentioned before, I am NOT being asked permission to run the modules. I did everything you wrote, but it is NOT working! When I had AVAST installed (and turned off during installation) I was being asked permission, but now even THAT is not happening anymore. I start being angry, and I suppose, it's not the meaning of it.

As I mentioned before, I am NOT being asked permission to run the modules.

Before, I only asked you to download and install with the antivirus off and properly configured, now, I've asked to also Uninstall AND doing the following:

Quote
- Uninstall GSX. Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine. Reply YES to both questions.

That's why I've asked AGAIN if you ARE being asked permission to run both modules because, only doing that will reset the FSX memory of having trusted something once (so it won't ask it again).

If you aren't, the are only 3 possible explanations:

1) You haven't done the "Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine" step, because THIS will reset the trust question

OR

2) Your antivirus is still blocking it

OR

3) You might have mistakenly put us in the un-trusted publishers, so nothing signed by us will run. To verify this, you can go to the Control Panel, under "Internet Options", look for the "Content" tab, there should be an "Publishers" button, that will list the software authors that you trusted, and another tab with untrusted authors. If you see "Virtuali s.a.s", remove it from both tabs (especially if it's under untrusted)

I'm sorry, I turned off AVG, deinstalled GSX AND Addon Manager, downloaded GSX again, installed ONLY GSX, put the exeptions in AVG (for the .dll and couatl.exe), turned on AVG again and started FSX. Unfortunately NO questions for the authentication. And in the Content-tab of my control Panel (Windows 7) under Internet Options, I can NOT find a Publishers-button. I really am sorry, to cause such a heap of trouble. :'(

That's not possible, because every Windows has it, on the "Content" tab, there's a "Publishers" button, it's the 3rd button from the left in the middle row that is labeled "Certificates". Or, it's two buttons down the "Parental Control" button:

Ah, sorry about that. Yes, I am using the Dutch version, so, that was the "problem". Now I heard at our forum (at vbirdva), that I probably have a register-problem (via regedit). I had an earlier version installed, which I got from a (former) friend of mine. When that did not work completely, I uninstalled it and now there is a problem in the registry, so I can not install the correct (new) GSX. Would that be possible? If yes, what can you suggest for me doing next. Is there something I can remove manually from the registry, via regedit?

I am NOT looking forward to format my HDD, for it will take me more than a week, to install everything again.

Hope you have a simple solution (NO, NOT format c:)  ;D

No, it's not possible. Assuming, of course, your registry problem is related to GSX. The one and only registry key that would relate to a previous GSX installation, is here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Fsdreamteam\GSX

That will hold you Serial Number and, of course, something will be there only if you already registered it. But regardless if there's a key there or not, GSX should work, in the worse case, if the key is wrong/invalid, it will run in Trial mode, but it will run.

Of course, there might be literally hundreds of registry keys that might be wrong/missing/corrupted that are not related to GSX but can AFFECT it, preventing it to run, like all those related to Windows permissions, the trust system, the certificates, the Windows System Libraries.

And yes, finding those will probably take more time than just reinstalling Windows...

Hi,

I purchased GSX through PCAviator, Australia. I've installed it, registered, gone to the Addon manager - it's there and registered. I go to Brisbane Airport(YBBN) Load the Airbus X Extended but there are no GSX service vehicles anywhere. How do you get them to show. I'm not all clear on the functions of the shift+Ctr+F12 and CtrF12 hotkeys. When I press them I get a box labelled trial mode with 3 airports listed, what does this do?Is there a detailed manual for GSX available. GSX has good potential but better instructions would be helpfull.   ???

I think the window is quite clear what is doing: is telling you that GSX is not activated and is running in Trial mode, suggesting to jump to one of this airports.

Is there a detailed manual for GSX available

Of course, and it can be accessed in 3 different ways:

1) From "Open Manual" button in the Addon Manager

OR

2) From the fsdreamteam/GSX program group in the Windows Start button

OR

3) Browsing the FSX\fsdreamteam\Couatl\GSX folder

Maybe you should have read the manual (you probably haven't, since you asked where it is), before saying that it might be done in a better way ? In any case, if the Addon Manager says it's registered, but it's still presenting the list of 3 Trial airports, it's possible that:

- You haven't restarted FSX after registering.

- There's some kind of permission problem with your user account, or you are running FSX in "Compatibility" mode. If you run FSX in Compatibility mode, turn it off. If not, try to run FSX As Administrator.

Thanx a bunch. Then I will try to order an SSD for Windows 7 only (64 / 128 Gb) and try to configure it as D-drive (startable), so my FSX-HDD drive can remain C for GSX and others. Hope, it'll work after that. And I know, what to do with future FSDT-products.

Thans again and I wish you a good and happy new year.

Hi Virtuali,

Sorry for any inconvenience. But I hope, you can understand me, that I am very hopeless, that it's still not working. I do not see any certificates under "publishers", related to Virtuali. Not in Trusted, nor in Un-trusted (not trusted). I can not add it to Trusted either. Probably this will be the problem? Due to financial problems, I was not able to reinstall Windows yet. Another reason is, that I try to avoid this, because it will take me too long, to get everything installed, the way I want it. :(

Is there any certificate-file, that I can use for importing it to the Certificates? If yes, I will be glad to receive it.

Nevertheless, I wish you all the best for 2014. :) And hope to here from you soon. By the way, I got the authentification-questions again, but still no working GSX. :'(

By the way, I got the authentification-questions again, but still no working GSX.

Then you can now stop worrying about certificates. The whole point of doing the check for the trusted publisher, was to be sure of the reason why you didn't get the authorization question.

Assuming for a moment it's not the antivirus, you can activate the Simconnect diagnostic mode to see what's wrong with your install:

Open notepad, and copy the following text:

Code: [Select]
[SimConnect]
level=normal
console=1
RedirectStdOutToConsole=1
OutputDebugString=1
; file=c:\simconnect%03u.log
; file_next_index=0
; file_max_index=9

Save the file as SIMCONNECT.INI in this folder:

Documents And Settings\YOUR LOGIN NAME\Documents\Microsoft Flight Simulator X Files

At the next FSX launch, you should see a text window with diagnostic message, that should tell what's going wrong. Let me know what you are getting, so we can have an idea what's happening.

Only the first few lines are important: if the window scrolls too fast, you can use the "Pause" key on the keyboard to pause the scrolling. Post here only the first 10 lines or so of the diagnostic, but it's important you post the first 10 lines.
