Got a new system and need help!!!!
« on: March 04, 2010, 01:59:14 am »
My wonderful old system [ ECS NForce 570 Mobo / Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz / Diamond Viper X1950Pro / 6G Corsair XMS2 / Windows 7 (64 Bit) / FS 9 (40 -60 FPS) / FS X (5-9 FPS)] Finally died last night. So I ran to my local Computer shop, and bought what I thought would be a great system for flight sim. However; since getting everything set up back the way I had it. I am at a lost of what is wrong. Here is my new specs:
-EVGA X58 Mobo
-Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz
-6G DDR3 Corsair XMS3
-EVGA Nvadia GT 240
-WD 1T HD
-Windows 7 (64Bit)
*FS9 (10 -14 FPS)
*FSX (.5 - 2 FPS)

I would think with this set up I would be flying better than I was. Anyone have any suggestions?

You say something is wrong . What is it? Generaly FSX runs best with high end processer and graphics cards. Im not sure but I read somewhere that (64) bit was not as compatable as (32) bit .Maybe someone else can advise on this. I would have went with a higher end card than your GT240 though.

Did you happen to update to the latest NVidia drivers?

If so, that may be your problem right there. From nvidia.com:

Quote
196.75 Alert!
We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers do not download this driver. Instead, please stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our website and we also are asking our partners and others to remove temporarily this 196.75 WHQL driver as well.

Others have reported that their cards have overheated completely to the point of them being completely fried. Personally, I never left 190.62, because a lot of this started with the 191.* drivers.

DO to a complete Processor Failure, I have started over... here is the new set up.
-EVGA X58 Mobo
-Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz
-WD 1T HDD
-6G DDR3 Corsair XMS3
-Radeon HS5770 (2 - Crossfire)
-Windows 7 (64Bit)

I have not reloaded FS9 yet, but I have loaded FSX, and I am getting the results as before. FPS are around 1-3 pm the ground, and 5-8 in the air. I have all the latest drivers, even modified the FSX.cfg file, and adjusted all the setting in FSX. The only things that I have loaded so far are the QW 757, Aerosoft A300, and all FSDT sceneries.
I am at a complete loss as why I am getting such bad results from FSX. Anyone elso have any suggestions?

One thing is for sure. FSX does not utilize crossfire. I made the same mistake by purchaseing two ATI 4870x2 cards, and the intell motherboard, and on the ATI forum site I was told this by the site moderator .I also found this to be true on the avsim site. Did you find out anything about the 64 bit system?
