Updates change log and version number?

Have there been any updates since relase and where do we find the change log and current version number?

What about version numbers? It'd be useful to know if the live update is actually updating files if there was a method to check versioning.

The issue of version numbers is a bit controversial. I think it only gives users a false sense of security, with no sure way to know if all files of the product are really ok.

Here's a discussion about it, with a real life example of an updater with a version number that, cannot detect changes to files, because it likely checks only a single file for the version number:

I understand - I guess ultimately (as a consumer) my request would be that we have a method of knowing that there is an update, and that the update successfully applied. How that's done, I'll leave to the experts!
