No GSX services-Parking isolated
« on: August 21, 2022, 10:37:01 pm »
Hi! I get a problem when trying to get GSX services at LICA (Lamezia Terme) with a message displaying that it is unable to load due to "Parking Isolated". Am using freeware scenery for information. https://sv.flightsim.to/file/13601/lamezia-terme

Thanks in advance!

Parking Isolated generally means that there is no taxi link from the parking spot to the taxi line. Nothing GSX can do about that, you need to get the dev of the airport scenery to fix it.

Well GSX could then at least try read the default afcad.

Well GSX could then at least try read the default afcad.

That would be wrong, of course, because parking spots and taxiway layout of the default airport might not be compatible with the add-on scenery, that's the point of having to read the *correct* file to begin with.

Yes, not denying that. However, then we could create a profile and correct that and at least USE GSX.

Some "correct" files are also wrong because of lazy AFCAD design by the devs. The best example is LOWS by DigitalDesign. All parking spots are named incorrectly and have duplicate names. For example, E1 and W1 are both named Parkin 1. In the default AFCAD they are named Parking 1 and Parking 2. When using the "correct" bgl, GSX can't tell the difference between the positions and it is therefore only possible to use one of the two. With this Airport it is even better to use the default one as the naming is identical but without duplicate names. I was then able to make it work by creating a custom profile. It took a while because the parking spots are all over the place but it is possible and usable at least.

You can't "just" make a profile, which only references parking spots that might change positions/rotations/size,  but the general assumption is the underlying structure should be CORRECT.

GSX is not advertised as a fixer for badly made airports, which is completely outside of its scope, since MSFS has a fully featured DevMode editor to create airports, and it would be wrong if we tried to replicate that, allowing users to fix *every* possible mistake in a scenery.

In addition to that, with each update, the internal DevMode editor in MSFS is becoming more and more picky about errors and, for example, the latest version doesn't even allow to compile an airport with isolated parking spots. But of course, if a scenery has been made with a previous version which didn't checked, it will still contain the error.
