No lighting on RWY 22R on Approach at JFK V2
« on: February 10, 2017, 06:13:40 am »
Hello;

There are 2 issues I have with RWY 22R at JFK V2

1) On approach to RWY 22R there is no lighting what so ever as close as 2.3 Miles out even at night which makes it impossible to see, and so it's very hard to line up for the runway. At about 10 feet above the RWY and once I land then there is lighting. too late then :'(.
2) The RWY seems to be a little off, more to the left than it should be. On ILS approach all lined up as per the instruments the runway is off to the left and I have to hand fly the aircraft in order to land on the runway. I fly this approach with the default and another 3rd. party scenery and it's fine.

I had this product awhile ago but uninstalled it 6-7 months ago  because of the issues. I decided to re-install again last Sunday 5th. from scratch assuming that these issues may have been fixed up updates. Since I installed it last Sunday I do have the latest version of all of the files including the Add-On manager which I checked.

I have attached a photo which show the RWY with no lights which you can hardly see and also the ILS showing everything centered but the runway off to the left if you can see it.

Is this an existing bug or am I missing something. I couldn't find anything on the forum about this.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The real airport doesn't have any lightning on that runway.

The localizer is slightly offset, because it wouldn't be possible to place an antenna in the swamp at the end of the runway, and I believe you can see the antenna on the left side of the runway.

I think I originally replied in the incorrect place.

Thanks for your response. So just to made sure I understand your answer. I wasn't referring to the approach lighting.I was referring to the actual lights on the runway itself. It's totally dark until you are about to land which will seem that the rendering of lights occurs too late. I do hold a PPL and never saw a runway with no lights (especially at night) unless the runway is totally inoperable which happens sometimes. I know that there was construction on the runway 22R/04L which ended in 2105 around mid summer I think and it is active since I landed there (I live in NYC). So it is an active runway. Let me know if I missed something.

Thanks again.

Sorry I meant so say 2015 not 2105.

The runway lights on 22R are surely there, see the attached screenshot. The approach lights, instead, are correctly missing. If you don't have the runway lights, the most likely cause is a conflict caused by another scenery.

Hi Umberto;

Thanks for your response and validating the issue. Yea, it does show but very late on the approach. If you noticed on my original post "It's totally dark until you are about to land which will seem that the rendering of lights occurs too late". Referring to your picture, that's the same with me, the runway lights appear as I am about to land. I would think that it would be visible at least maybe 3 - 4 miles out on a clear 10+ miles visibility. It seems that the rendering of the lights is done very late to maybe save on performance, not sure since that would be for your tech team to answer ;). I normally only fly the heavies (both PMDG & iFLY 747) so setting up a stable approach is crucial a few miles out.

If this is the way it is, then at least I know that I didn't miss something in a preference setup or otherwise.

Let me know.

Thanks.

They are visible, not totally dark. You might improve them a bit, by ensuring you have Anisotropic filtering at 16x enabled in the Video card Control Panel, because these runways use custom textures, even for the lights, so the resolution at a distance, is affected by that setting.

Hi Umberto;

Thanks again for your response. I use the NVIDIA Inspector and I think it's set at 8X, I will check my settings once I get to my Flight Sim  PC tomorrow. I am also using DX10 with the Fixer.

Best Regards.
