Couatl and ntdll crash near KLAX
« on: January 14, 2015, 05:01:10 pm »
Not sure if this has anything to do with FSDT products, but I never got these crashes before, I did a clean install of FSX steam twice now and sometimes Couatl will randomly crash and other times I get this ntdll.dll crash as well. Usually when I am flying around or approaching KLAX.

The ntdll crash doesn't have anything to do with any of our products. And in fact, it might be the *cause* of the Couatl.exe crash.

Try to enable logging in the GSX Settings page, restart FSX and then post the Couatl.LOG and Couatl.ERR files you should see in your %APPDATA%\virtuali folder.

I just tried to enable logging and as soon as I did, I got this crash. Im going to restart and try again.

Ok, so with FSX Steam Edition I have been able to crank the eye candy up to levels I wouldnt even dream of in FSX or P3D. Because of this, I have been getting strange terrain.dll, g3d.dll, and now this dtdll.dll errors. I realized that the amount I am asking out of an 8 year old sim may be too much, so I decided to give it more resources by applying an affinity mask value of 14 (I never messed with Affinity mask settings before because I had settings turned down to avoid OOM's in regular FSX)

To my surprise, after settings my Affinity mask to 14, all the errors I have been getting over the last couple of days have completely ceased. Strange, but true. Hope this helps anyone else who may be struggling. Thanks as always to Umberto for the support.

That's why the default value for that tweak in the Addon Manager is 14...it's the best value to use on a quad-core system. But it's not set automatically, you must save the settings to have it applied.

It's not possible to comment to such kind of log, without any information from you about what really happened. Please describe exactly when this is happening, *where* it is happening, which version of the sim your are running, and if this has anything to do with this thread, which reported an ntdll crash near KLAX, and was fixed by resetting the affinity mask.
