Problem with AI Carriers
« on: December 07, 2010, 06:56:39 pm »
For the last few days, the AI Carriers have begun to display a 'strange' behaviour.

If I start my FSX in full screen mode, the AI Carriers loads and then quits on me.
If I start my FSX in 'windowed' mode, the AI Carriers works, but it quits again, as soon as I switch to the full screen mode again.

If however, I restart the AI carriers by clicking the aicarriers.exe file, it continues to work, even in full screen mode.

Please Help

As far as I can tell, nothing has changed with my FSX installation. It's the same as when the AI Carriers worked perfectly (though, obviously something HAS changed).

I have already checked the FSX.XML and DLL.XML files. They are as they should be.

I am running Windows 7, 64 bit on a Core i7 with 6 gigs or ram.

Can someone help me with this please.

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks Frenchie88.

I will do that, but only as a last resort. 'Touch Wood' but other than this 'unusual behaviour' of AICarriers, about everything else with my present FSX installation works like a charm.

I am a bit chary of disturbing anything with the present setup, unless absolutely necessary.

You may be right though, since I have my Java installation setup to 'auto update' itself, that might be the only thing that could have changed.

There are many specialists on this forum (Virtuali, Orion, Sludge, FSXNP, Nick, Razgriz and so on and so on). I am sure, someone out there HAS a positive solution to this. If nothing works, maybe I will go this way.

Thanks anyways.

Did you try reinstalling AICarriers? Also, you can just delete the fsx.cfg (FSX will rebuild it next time you start the game), I am 90% that this will solve the problem.

I doubt rebuilding the fsx.CFG will resolve it, unless some trusted gauge is somehow interfering with AICarriers2.

I'd recommend trying to reinstall AICarriers2r2 and/or Java.

Thanks neutrino,

I did reinstall AICarriers.
I didn't delete FSX.CFG, but I make a backup of all critical FSX files and keep them on a removable hard disk. I manually recreated the file with reference to the last known good and working copy of FSX.CFG that I had.

That didn't work either.

For some reason, the AICarriers crashes on me, ONLY when I switch to Full Screen view. At this point if I manually start the AICarriers.exe, it works like a charm again. But, I am having to do this each and every time.

I do have a feeling that it is to do with 'Java'. My java installation must have auto updated itself, and some updated tweak must be interfering somewhere.

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/printthread.php?t=18423&pp=15&page=1

That should do it.

Thx Razgriz,

I had applied the fix stated at the link you mentioned, initially when I had installed FSX and AICarriers for the first time. If that fix is not applied, the AICarriers program just doesn't start in the first place.

I have that fix applied, and my AICarriers does start and continues to work, as long as I run FSX in windowed mode.
I can even see this process running in the 'Windows Task Manager'.
It QUITS on me, the moment I switch to Full Screen View.

I will be damned if I know, what changes, when we switch from 'Windowed Mode' to 'Full Screen Mode'.
My concern is that, if this change in view can kill this one process (AICarriers), who knows which other processes it is capable of killing.

My aim of running this thread was to find that cause. Who knows, maybe, in this debugging process, we might discover new reasons of debugging other applications as well.

Looks like I was a little premature although I still appreciated the info you posted earlier. Mine disappears upon entering full screen mode as well :'(

To all those who offered their help, my sincere 'Thank You'.

After multiple uninstall/re-install of the latest Java versions (both 64 & 32 bit), and also experimenting with different tweaks to the FSX.CFG (nothing there), EXE.DLL (nothing there either) and also the DLL.XML (disabled a few addons like PMDG out here), I think I have hit upon the solution to the problem.

I think the problem is related to the 'Preview DX-10' option of FSX.

With FSX running in DX-10 mode, AICarriers crashes when running in full screen mode.
I disabled the DX-10 preview mode, and now the AICarriers, seems to work just like before.

I am guessing it's something to do with compatibility of new version of Java with DX-10 preview mode of FSX. In any case, it seems to have cured my problem.

Svicar. You may like to check your 'display settings' as well. See if this tweak helps you too.
