The flight crew uses pounds and kilograms, yes, but the fuelers use gallons and liters. Have a look at Air Canada 143 and see what happens when that gets messed up.

I remember something, like they were run out of fuel, because was made some confusion from dispatch, like they think they have kilograms on fuel, but the plane was refueling in punds or something like this. See this year's ago...

They were switching from pounds to kilograms, and the 767 was the first plane in Air Canada's fleet to go to kilograms. The whole thing started with a broken FQIS, so they had no fuel quantity indication and needed to check the fuel level with a dripstick, which gave it to them in liters. Then when they did the fuel calculation to figure out how many liters of fuel to tell the fuelers they needed, they used the wrong density to do the conversion since they had calculated lb/L when it should have been kg/L. This led to them loading 22,300 pounds of fuel rather than the 22,300 kilograms they were supposed to have.
