Application Hang after installing GSX2 **SOLVED**
« on: September 09, 2018, 05:47:09 pm »
Installed GSX2 yesterday but I cannot complete any flight using standard aircraft.  The sim freezes up after about 20 minutes or so and I have to exit the application.  Additional it seems to take longer than usual to load sceneries or aircraft.  Did not have this problem previously.  I got the message to check these files for more information, but I don't know what to look for;
  C:\Users\Garry\AppData\Local\Temp\WER9DB9.tmp.appcompat.txt
  C:\Users\Garry\AppData\Local\Temp\WERA430.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml

Do you have some error in the Event viewer ?

The Application log should contains something related to the simulator ( which you called "the sim" or "the application", which doesn't help us in any way understanding which one of the 5 supported simulators you are using ), that's the only report that might be useful to see what crashed, and if it has any relationship with our software.

So, it was SODE the crashed, not GSX. You say "after 20 minutes". What does it mean ? 20 minutes into a flight ? Or just 20 minutes on the airport ?

I would takeoff from an airport and after approximately 20 minutes of flying FSX would just freeze up, you can still hear the engine sound and the screen looks like you are flying except the clock stops and I cannot use the mouse.  Sometimes it would startup again if I just left it alone for awhile, maybe 3 or 4 minutes.  Other times I have to open task manager and force a close.

As the log shows, it was SODE which crashed. GSX doesn't do anything if you are flying.

Try the SODE Platform manager: there's an option to see the log, maybe you'll find something there that might explain the crash.

I did a reinstall (repair) to the SODE but it did not have any impact. I downloaded updates from Windows, loaded FSX and ran the program without using Active Sky Next.  The entire flight went well with no issues whatsoever.  Next time I fly, I will load Active Sky Next and see if that makes a difference, but for now everything looks good including the GSX update!
