KERNELBASE.DLL Error
« on: July 29, 2015, 07:39:33 pm »
Whenever I select any airport in the Southern Carribean area (Panama City to Trinidad and Tobago) my FSX gives me an error or simply freezes on me. The faulting module name on the error log is KERNELBASE.DLL, but the faulting application is couati.exe or fsx.exe. I have posted on forums at Flightsim and Alpha India Group, which has led to no avail.  Can anybody help? Here is the error log below:

Have you tried upgrading to the 3.0 version of Couatl? It may help...
You are still running the 2.0.0.2364, according to your error log.

How do I update to the latest version? I downloaded the installer again from the website and reinstalled couati.

Version 3.0 is only on the forum, because it's in Public Beta test now:

I keep getting the error that setup was unable to close all applications. I hit 'retry' and the message pops up again. I have run the program in administrator mode and in normal mode.

This happened because you tried to run the installer with FSX still running. OR, because you launched it too quickly after closing FSX, before it had time to close all opened files and shut down all running processes.

A Windows restart would surely fix it.

It happened again...

Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.3.9600.17415, time stamp: 0x54504ade
Exception code: 0xe06d7363
Fault offset: 0x00014598

I'm sorry, but nobody ever reported this problem before, but if you search the internet for this error, you can see it happens with thousands of different applications. Which means, the application ( Couatl.exe in this case ) it's not the cause of the problem, it's the victim.

A thread about it here:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/programs-crash-error-fault-module-kernelbasedll/9fe5d2e7-79d0-42c1-b8dc-51ed8d70f749

Suggest it might be caused by your user account being corrupted and/or with wrong permissions.

This thread here on Steam has the *IDENTICAL* fault offset AND exception code as yours, and affected Final Fantasy 13:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/292120/discussions/1/619574421471924694/

And the user seems to have fixed it by disabling DEP for that game. Not normal, since it's not usually required for any of our modules, but it might be if your user account has problems.

Another one here on Microsoft:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0edbaf81-5629-464d-b373-bcddbe7482da/lync-crashes-on-startup-faulting-module-kernelbasedll?forum=officeitpro

With another suggestion to switch to a new user account to check if the problem was the corruption of the account.

Another one here, same exception codes and offset, affecting Visual Studio:

http://blog.malevy.net/2015/03/visual-studio-2013-appcrash.html

And again, it was caused by a corrupted user account

Turned to the Internet and found this answer in the Microsoft forums. It seems that my User Profile was corrupted. I created a new account on the machine, killed the previous one. Done.

I reinstalled FSX into a folder on my C:/ drive an am experiencing no issues. I will install your products and see if it still works.
