Right for line up!
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:16:18 pm »
Here are a couple pictures I took while in the pattern with the hornet. The first picture was edited in picasa, the others are straight from fsx (CaptSim F/A-18D + Javier Fernandez's Nimitz), enjoy!

The first one totally fooled me, I thought I've seen every picture of real Hornet HUD :) The others are great too, the FA-18D is very nice  8)

capthaltli (does that mean 'little stop captain' in Switzer-Deutsch?)   ::)

Nice pics for sure. I was wondering - perhaps because I don't usually look at an outside view of an approach - if the landing light can be switched off for night carrier ops. A white light like that will kill everyone's night vision (reason for onboard red lighting regime). A small point, so just wondering if that light can be switched off? Then the LSO can see the outside AoA indexer indication lights. Seeing that white light he would be 'in the net' FAST.  ;D Here comes the freight train.....

Maybe it is just that pic that actually shows the indexer light? Can't look for myself at moment - just coming to grips with Windows 7 and FSX not installed yet.

SpazSinbad, you are right the landing light should be off during night carrier ops... unless you want to blind the LSO's and mask your AoA indication ;).

It would be great if the AoA indexder lights on the nose gear worked in FSX, but they don't. This would certainly help out the virtual LSO's if they could see these lights from the platform  :o A PLAT cam would be nice too.

cap, Nice pics again. Vaguely I recall seeing the AoA indexer repeater lights on the nose strut of the Hornet in FSX but I still don't have FSX installed in Win7 to have a look yet. I guess HOOK needs to be down to see them.

SpazSinbad, the AoA indexer lights are definitely on the nose gear (see picture below), I have just never seen them work or light up.

Good luck with the win7 install and getting FSX up and running.

I'm really tied up with the 4.4GB PDF not working well in Acrobat 9 in Win7 issues at moment - installing FXS there has not happened yet. Vaguely I recall that the chap who made the freeware Goshawk used a similar function in the FSX Hornet for the T-45C. At least it works in the latest edition of that Goshawk. Is there a 'night' switch that may dim the lights? Daytime those lights are bright. So perhaps if lights dimmed in daytime then those same lights cannot be seen? Just a thought.

SpazSinbad,

You are correct, the T-45C does have working indexer lights, would love to see this on the hornet.
