Dirty Configuration questions
« on: September 06, 2009, 07:06:21 pm »
Hi all, I'm new here, but not to flightsim, I'v logged more hours than is probably healthy  ;) Anyways, just had a couple of quick questions:

1. Is it just me or does the nose gear seem a little too large, especially in relation to the main gear. Is there any way to fix that in like the cfg?
2. Is there anyway to get the rudders to snap inboard when taking off/landing like the real plane?
3. lastly, does anyone know where I can find a good new sound pack, afterburner effect, and maybe even engine exhaust effect?

Hopefully my questions are slightly relevant, but I love the accel hornet, and I'm after anything to make it even more realistic.
Thanks a million guys

At this website there is this info about Hornet undercarriage tyre dimensions:

http://iron-eagles.tripod.com/wb_ac_files/f18.htm

LANDING GEAR: "Nosewheel tyres size 22 x 6.6-10, 20 ply, pressure 24.13 bars (350 lb/sq in) for carrier operations, 10.34 bars (150 lb/sq in) for land operations. Mainwheel tyres size 30 x 11.5-14.5, 24 ply, pressure 24.13 bars (350 lb/sq in) for carrier operations, 13.79 bars (200 lb/sq in) for land operations."
&
FLYING CONTROLS: "...both rudders turned in at take-off and landing to provide extra nose-up trim effort...."

Thanks for the references, unfortunately, the link you provided didn't work for me, not sure why though. This probably sounds like a dumb question, but how would I go about adjusting the cfg. to comply with the data you supplied. I've logged a lotta hours flying, but im not exactly an expert in modding. Thanks, and sorry for the rookie type questions.

Perhaps that first link appears broken? The text has been amended to present it now unbroken - otherwise IE8 in Win7RC was used to access that site.

This link will provide a small PDF about 'testing the Hornet flight control software for AoA probe failures':

http://handle.dtic.mil/100.2/ADA307768  (0.2Mb PDF)

The graphic shows relevant text for info only (about rudder toe-in). Otherwise I have no clue about modding anything except what other people do. That is why I'm here.  ;D

Questions are always good although sometimes my own answers reflect my ignorance (which I'm attempting to correct).

I'm not a 3D model maker but I think the model must be changed if needed.  I don't think the aircraft cfg can be changed to change model size.

2. Is there anyway to get the rudders to snap inboard when taking off/landing like the real plane?
I don't know but may be possible.  Hope someone has better knowledge.  Perhaps the cfg and FDE can be changed but I guess it won't be easy?

3. lastly, does anyone know where I can find a good new sound pack, afterburner effect, and maybe even engine exhaust effect?
No, but good ideas.

Hornet night catapult shot description:

http://www.neptunuslex.com/2006/02/11/rhythms-part-xliii/

'“TRIM” ” trim set 16 degrees nose up on the stabilators, rudder and aileron neutral, rudders check for 30-degree toe-in. The nose up trim sets the rate of capture for optimal flyaway angle of attack. With a properly trimmed jet, it would be a hand’s-off cat shot, with the flight computers setting the climb attitude.'

Thanks for your help guys, doesn't sound like there is much that can be done though... Oh well, its still one of the nicest planes in all of the flight sim series.

Yeah, it can be tough to get a straight answer around here sometimes.  ;)

-To the first two questions, both of those are built into the model and cannot be edited by anyone unless you have the source code (the original model file).

-As for sound, TSS makes a pretty darn good soundpack. http://www.fspilotshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=1964
