Sometimes GSX doesn't launch with P3dv4.1
« on: November 16, 2017, 06:10:52 pm »
This happens about 50% of the time. I'll start P3d, bring up an AC, begin preflight and realize when I'm about ready to cater or refuel, GSX isn't running. Not sure why this happens, but the fix seems to be to quit P3d and restart, then it's working.

My question is, when this does happen, is there a way to start GSX without quitting p3d?

Please clarify what do you mean with "GSX isn't running". Are you missing the GSX/Couatl menu from the "Addons" menu bar, or you just call GSX with the keys, and it doesn't show the transparent in-game menu ?

If you are missing the GSX and the Couatl menu at start, the most common cause is that you started the sim too quickly after closing the previous session, not giving enough time to close all the opened applications and release all files, which might take some time, if your system is overloaded by addons, each one requiring to be properly close. If this happens, the next session won't be able to start, because there's still the old one stuck from the old session.

You can check on the Task Manager if there's still a Couatl.exe running from the previous version after the sim closed and, in case, Terminate it manually.

Thanks for the reply. When this does happen, (and I mean that GSX won't open with the keys, AND it's also not in the Add-ons menu), this is the first run of P3d of the day.

So is there no way to launch GSX manually if this does happen? The work around has been to quit P3d, wait a few minutes for process to shut down and try again. Usually this works, but it's somewhat of a pain.

The work around has been to quit P3d, wait a few minutes for process to shut down and try again. Usually this works, but it's somewhat of a pain.

This is not a workaround, it's entirely normal. It means you started P3D too quickly after closing a previous session, not giving it enough time to release all open files and file locks, so the next session cannot start, because the one from the previous one is still closing.

If your system is overloaded with too many addons, you are short on physical memory so even if P3D (assuming it's V4) won't crash, if the system is swapping virtual memory and physical memory from the hard drive and, regardless how fast it is, even the fastest SSD is dozen of times slower than real memory, so it might take a while to clean everything after the sim has been closed.

The only solution, other than waiting a while to ensure everything has been closed (you can use the Task Manager, and wait for Couatl.exe to close, instead of waiting a random amount of time), is to either increase the RAM, or reduce the number of addons loaded or your settings.

Will GSX if paid in full, work with P3D v4.1 without issues?

GSX works with no issues in every version of P3D, up to 4.2, regardless if it's paid or not.
