Title: Error requesting fuel **SOLVED - temporary fix**
Post by: JimmyJr1981 on June 05, 2024, 09:08:22 pm
Hi,

today I've encountered a strange problem (it was reproduceable 3 times): When requesting the fueltruck at LGAV couatl quits and wants a restart. After having a look in the couatl.err it looks like it couldn't load the fuel price and therefore a variable is wrong. This is what the last 10 lines look like:

channel.balance =  -1
emulateText_MSFS [GSX] Refueling service requested 2.0
emulateText_MSFS [GSX] Fuel Truck is on its way 2.0
emulateMenu_MSFS
Fuel price set from EIA.gov
Fuel price =  None
Traceback (most recent call last):
File ".\GSX\assistanceServices\__init__.py", line 2955, in getFuelPrice
TypeError: float() argument must be a string or a number
{'Airport': 'LGAV', 'Requested assistance services at': 'Gate B 40', 'User Pos': (37.941200028291505, 23.95130282116149, 91.7707 m, 2.84717 m, 38.773900098128784, 0.0010844535843259615, 0.001745329238474369, -0.00026673433244689426, 3.18211187210083, 1.0)}

--> The website EIA.gov was indeed not reachable. But does this need to crash GSX?

Having the same exact issue right here at FALA (Lanseria in South Africa). When i did a flight earlier this day everything was fine. Just did a live update to see if it fixes the issue but it did not. Seriously what does GSX need the current fuel price for.

Yes. its not the Airport... there is no Fuel Price ..at no airport worldwide but GSX doesnt accept "none" as a price (it has to we a string (none is a string....) or a number. weired.... better error handling would be nice when the fuel price cant be parsed out from ??? .... we dont need the price. just fuel.

When clicking load aircracft by GSX on the Fenix A320 I get:
The addon is causing the Couatl scripting Engine to restart.
Please run Live Update
Do you want to open log to see error details?

I ran Live update, no effect.

The error log is below. Can anyone help? Thanks

There is error handling, but it only takes into account the fact the EIA website is down, not the API today started to returns weird values not according to their docs ( tested even in a simple browser).

We'll obviously fix this in the next update but, in the meantime, you can fix it by blocking the EIA.GOV website in your PC this way:

- Edit this file:

\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

and add this line as the last line of text:

127.0.0.1 api.eia.gov

Hello @ all,

My GSX crashes after some seconds, when refuling.

I load the Aircraft via Fenix EFB -> GSX.
I allready uninstalled and re-installed fenix and GSX Pro, unfortunately the problem still exists.
The issue affects all airports, I tried a lot.
Maybe somebody can support!

Hello, when trying to load aircraft via the Fenix A320's EFB I keep getting this error at multiple airports (EGLL and EGCC). I have tried FSDT live update multiple times nothing seems to be working. I have attached the error log below.

Please DO NOT open new threads about a problem, when an identical thread is already opened, answered and fixed. I'm merging all the duplicate threads here, and I'll repeat the solution, so it stays on the last posts and it's easier to read:

Won't make any difference, initially, because the fix won't fix what is likely a bug in the EIA website (it started to return strange data today), so the first fix will just intercept the error and fallback to a default fuel price, which would be exactly the same as if you blocked the site.

Only after we'll understand why the website is acting like that (maybe it might be fixed, we'll surely report this), we can release a final fix, so removing the line will make a difference, with the price going back to be updated live. And of course, you might want to remove the line if you *want* to visit the EIA website for any reason.

Glad there is a workaround for this issue as I am having same troubles.  However can anyone help walk me through exactly where to find this file to edit?  Unclear as to where to find this file so I can fix.  Moderator commented this is the file to edit but I have no idea exactly where this is located.  Any help would be appreciated.

How do I open it via Admin mode?

Open the windows start menu, type "cmd" --> result should show "command prompt". Right click on it and choose "run as administrator". In the cmd change to the directory C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc by entering "cd C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc". Then you type "notepad hosts" and add the mentioned line "127.0.0.1 api.eia.gov" to the end of the file and save it. That's it!

An easier way to open Notepad As Admin is:

- Press the "Windows" key on your keyboard, the start menu will open

- In the blank search area, start typing Notepad, the Notepad icon will appear on the left side of the menu

- Right-Click on the Notepad icon which appeared in the search, and select "Run As Administrator"

- Now you can open the file normally and it will allow you to save it back.

Do you need the # prior to that line.  I have inserted the line, but still have the problem.

You don't have to put the symbol # in front of line. It say very clearly :  Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
So if you use # everything becomes a comment, which has no effect. Just put it without any symbol in front of it.

Hello Virtualis.
Thank you for the correction. But it still gives me an error when I refuel a larger amount into the 747... When the fuel comes in the second time, it gives an error and the coutal has to be restarted again.

Here is part of the panic.log dump"

Can you fix it?

Well thank you.

That's a completely different issue that is not relevant to this thread and it's not fixed by this fix, which ONLY required to deal with some kind of change in behavior in the EIA website. But even if your error is different, it should also be fixed in the next update (being uploaded right now), since I surely checked the updated code and it has been fixed.

Fine. Well thank you. I'm not a programmer, and until the fuel data from the eia website fell out, multiple fueling also worked for me.

That's why I put it together somehow...
May I know when I will be able to run the update? It's not working right now.

Thanks.

Hello everyone! I'm having this problem when I request refueling at any airport : the addon <unknown> is causing the couatl scripting.

How do I solve this problem?

I am also having exactly the same issue as everyone else so me thinks this might not just be an "anti virus" issue.

As soon as you click request refuelling couatl crashes.

Same log, same error.......

Please DO NOT open new threads about a problem, when an identical thread is already opened, answered and fixed. I'm merging all the duplicate threads here, and I'll repeat the solution, so it stays on the last posts and it's easier to read:

There is error handling, but it only takes into account the fact the EIA website is down, not the API today started to returns weird values not according to their docs ( tested even in a simple browser).

We'll obviously fix this in the next update but, in the meantime, you can fix it by blocking the EIA.GOV website in your PC this way:

- Edit this file:

\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

and add this line as the last line of text:

127.0.0.1 api.eia.gov

IMPORTANT
If you use Notepad or any other editor, you MUST run the editor "As Administrator", otherwise you won't be allowed to edit the file.

This of course will be fixed without requiring this workaround, in the upcoming 3.0 update which is being deployed right now.

Hi,

because v3 is released, we can delete the entry in the hosts file?

Best regards

Yes, is not required anymore.
