Title: GSX pro cannot insert a value for the numbers of passengers during the boarding
Post by: Paolo1994 on August 20, 2022, 01:19:58 am
Hi,

We cannot insert manually a value for the number of passengers during the boarding. Someone can help me please ? the option in GSX settings "estimate numbers of passengers" is not crossed.

Because MSFS doesn't let 3rd party programs intercept keystrokes, there is no option to manually enter passenger numbers. You can use SimBrief integration for an accurate passenger number, or let GSX estimate based on payload.

Maybe GSX would create a way to insert passenger number via GSX Services dialog box in somewhere like data insertions via Aircraft CDU. That would be great.

GSX for a long time has allowed airplane developers to set an L: variable to communicate to GSX the passenger number the airplane has calculated by its own means, so we anticipate once the first proper GSX integration will arrive, between this and SimBrief, nobody will feel the need to inserting the passenger number manually again.

If no SimBrief then how to change the passenger number? I guess we can change the default passenger number from a related xml or INI file before launching MFS. Otherwise, leaving as is it will take long boarding/onboarding time.

If no SimBrief then how to change the passenger number?

A method could be making a small LUA macro with FSUIPC or LINDA to set the L: variable GSX expects, as if you were an airplane. The last page in GSX manual are not just for developers, using such utilities, the information is also useful for users.

I'd like to stress that, having to manually insert the passenger number was a chore, and it's far more realistic to use a Dispatch system, because surely the pilots (you) are not supposed to tell the ground crew how many people to board so, if you are really interested in having the *accurate* number of passengers, indicating an interest to realistic operation, why not just using SimBrief ?

If you are just pressed for just a quick flight, does it really matters in that case if the number of passengers automatically estimated from the payload might be a bit off ?

Interesting. Thanks Umberto for that well detailed comments.
