CYVR HD textures
« on: November 28, 2014, 06:18:20 pm »
Good evening!

I am about to buy CYVR tonight. I have just installed it. Before I pay though I have one question.

During the install there was a message that HD textures would be enabled. Now I am not using HD textures, leaving max textures set to 1024 in the fsx.cfg
The reason is I do all I can to limit the probability of having OOM's since my PC is not top notch (just 4.0 GHz after overclocking) and I use a lot of high fidelity addons all together.

The question is: can I use CYVR with max textures set to 1024 (in fsx.cfg)?
Will it only make them less sharp (which I expect and accept of course) or wil there be any graphic anomalies or any other problems?
Sorry if this question sounds ignorant, but I don't have enough experience to be sure on that, so I prefer to ask before I buy.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
My finger is wating to press BUY.  ;)

You can surely INSTALL the highest possible resolution texture for CYVR, so you won't have to go through the installation again (it's fairly long, since all textures must be regenerated on the fly), but set the maximum size in the Addon Manager to be 2048 or 1024 to save RAM.

Even if textures are in 4096 size, if the setting in the Addon Manager (which controls the FSX.CFG anyway) is set to a lower value, that will be the value used, you'll just waste a bit more of hard drive space to store HD texture you won't see.

Another thing you can try, is to *install* CYVR with building textures at 4096 or 2048, and Shadows textures at 1024, and keep them at 2048 or 4096 in the sim, so you'll save some memory without compromise too much with sharpness. A bit of blurring in shadows is way less noticeable if the rest of the scenery is sharp.

I would like this airport myself to use with p3d v2.4. I have a GTX770 4gb card. Is that good enough to run it with HD textures.

Do you know all our products are available in Trial version ? Just download it and install it.

P.S.
Your video card is better than mine, and I can run CYVR at the maximum textures size with good fps and no issues.
