Yes, JFK is probably the first candidate for a total remake. But will take several months, possibly the best part of 2013 so, it's really too early to discuss it.
It's a very common misconception the JFK photoreal background, is of somewhat less resolution compared to our more recent works.
That's simply not true, the resolution and quality of that background is as good or even better than all our other sceneries but, the unique thing about it that, instead of using what was standard in 2008 when it was released, which means FS8 ground polygons (we don't do that since KDFW), in order to save the maximum amount of fps possible, since FS8 ground polygons are very slow, we used instead a native FSX photoreal background.
This has the advantage of being much faster but with the disadvantage that we basically lose control about the final sharpness, because that type of ground scenery might be sharp or not depending on a LOT of factors like settings, performance, multi-core optimizations, tweaks, vsync, etc. When things gets overloaded, FSX lowers the photoreal resolution automatically, hence the "blurries", which affects many photorealistic sceneries.
This also gave us compatibility with DX10 very early, but back then nobody basically used it...
The way we do backgrounds now, like in KDFW, KLAX and CYVR ( different methods, with each one being a constant improvement over the previous one), which are 100% native FSX code with the help of the Addon Manager/Couatl programs (otherwise the SDK wouldn't allow it) we have the total control on appearance, we also have access to shaders so we have special effects like wet appearance, bump mapping, specular mapping and control over detail textures without having to add any polygons, but we don't suffer from blurries, since the ground is not really a "photoreal" terrain, so FSX can't ruin it trying to "optimize" it...
