Well in multi player while we are flyign a demo the diamond guys notice that the lights even tho one might have them truned off, appear as on to him and some of the guys say it affects their frame rates. We were trying to tinker with this. I know lets say for example, you get into the room and turn the lights off right away, when I come in a few minutes later your lights would be on from my view. This was a question raised by one of the team members and thought of you on this one. lol

That is impossible, if you even thought about it.  First off, on realism, turn off Pilot Controls Aircraft Lights.  Then while starting the session, turn off realism changes.  That would be a big hit thought for people like me because jimi flies with 0% realism, so while landing I'd always spin out.

Ah, I see what you're saying, Shylock. Sorry for picking you up wrong.

Does Raz's suggestion solve the problem?

Hey guys ,,I just thought of something,might work ,might not
what if Shylock just deleted the lines in CFG files for the lights he didn't want?
I delete lines by putting two slashes in front of the lines like this;

[liGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
//light.0 = 3,  -26.70,  -4.00,   1.40, fx_navredm ,
//light.1 = 3,  -26.70,   4.00,   1.40, fx_navgrem ,
//light.2 = 3,  -49.40,   5.80,   8.50, fx_navwhi ,
//light.3 = 1,  -46.20,   5.90,   7.50, fx_beaconb ,
//light.4 = 1,  -46.10,  -5.90,   7.50, fx_beaconb ,
light.5 = 10,  -14.00,  0.00,   2.00, fx_vclight,

Shylock; try this and let us know if it works,or not in multi-player
Good luck
Randy

So, lets try night flying now in single player, for most people who fly with the external.  Kinda hard?

Yea Razgriz, I know but at least if it does work for Shylock in multi-player he can always change it back
without too much difficulty for single player,Pain in da bum maybe but if it accomplishes what he needs,
 might be worth it  ::)

Would still be interested to see if the idea works at all, since some of the F/A-18's nav lights are connected to attach points in the model itself and are not actually defined in the aircraft.cfg file.

Anyone to try this out in MP?

There are other reasons for my madness here. With taking out the lights, we really have no need for them in our demo, I want to replace the control function with a smoke effect. NOOOO its not multi colored smoke. But rather when ever you see a real life hornet the engine exhaust is a amber/yellowish color. It would be a cool effect for the movie we have coming out. We worked out all the other bugs with the 18 now its just a matter of making it look pretty.

Shylock ;Have you had any luck changing the smoke colors to something more realistic?
 I was thinking it might not be to hard to modify the fuel dump effect, rename it ,then
attatch that to the aircraft under the smoke system
I would be willing to mess around with that if it interests you
I just don't know how it would look running multiplayer as I have too slow an internet
connection to do so myself

Shylock,

Have you got any good pictures that show this natural engine exhaust?
