GSX does not save settings
« on: July 04, 2012, 11:59:53 pm »
Hi folks.

I am finding a problem with GSX. He is not keeping my settings. The changes I made e.g. changing the direction of the pushback or if the position has jetway, are not saving. When i exit from FSX and restart, the options appear as default again. Checking the Virtuali folder i noticed that the "GSX" folder containig the .ini files is missing.

Trying to change the vehicles locations, when i hit "Y" i also get an error, even in defautl sceneries:

I already downloaded the latest Stand-Alone Addon Manager.

These are the last lines of Couatl.err

I already tried to reinstall GSX. I have administrator permission im my PC. The UAC is completely off. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thanks

Dear friend,
I have the same problem here.
Waiting for some solution. ???

Dear friend, I solved that. ::)
You can see that folder GSX does not exist in path "\AppData\Roaming\Virtuali\GSX" so I just created and now it works. Why that happens only God knows.

Not a GSX problem, it seems you have wrong permission on your folder, this has been discussed already and a possible solution is:

- Create a new user account and install GSX there.

- Run FSX once on it

- Logout, and enter in your normal user account

Hopefully, this will fix the problem with your normal account.

Dear Sir.

I know that is not a GSX problem. 8)
The products of FSDreamTeam are always the best and I am a big fan of this enterprise.
I just made a "non standard" fix for this issue.
I am sure it's about permission [I just reformated my Windows to use SSD and the old one used to run perfectly].
I will try your approach.
Thanks,
Roberto Jucá

That won't work, you need to what I've said above:

- Create a new user account and install GSX there.

- Run FSX once on it

- Logout, and enter in your normal user account

I tried that to but still no go.
I created a user and took the GSX setup file installed it in the new user and launched FSX with the default flight.
Then I got out of the new user back in to the old one and launched FSX there but still no saving.

Is GSX able to save its settings when run as the new user ?

It's likely your permissions on the local hard drive are entirely messed up.

Try this:

- Go back into the regular user

- Go to the %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder and right click on it

- Select "Properties" then "Security" and Add YOURSELF (your user name) with full control rights

Which is not the default setting (normally, an user can only control his own folders) so, you must have changed it and, in the process, probably create the issue. Such permissions don't always automatically propagate in all folders just because you set the whole drive with them, some folders need to explicitly set.

Please do as asked, and explicitly set YOUR user name (not "User" or "All Users", but YOUR user name) with full control on the %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder

This problem doesn't have anything to do with GSX, it's your permission which are not correct so, it's no use installing GSX, because the issue is not GSX, but your system, GSX can't obviously force permissions on a folder (it would be really something if it was able to do it).
