Any changes to the 'aircraft.cfg' file will be lost. The install program assumes a unaltered configuration file. I writes a new copy of the '.cfg' file which will erase any changes.
I had installed the tiger liveries (thank you reider) and Flares I and II (thanks Intrepid ) and then downloaded and installed the sampler.
My new planes were gone and I had smoke instead of flares.
With a new file there should be no problem. And with, a copy of the previous '.cfg' file, reinstalling any changes is an upper level beginner project. The post about the 'Tiger Liveries' will show you how to fix it.
My adventure is recorded here.

I am having fun.
Mission one: "Flying Tight" is new to me.and I am learning how much I don't know. It is much different
Mission two: All I have managed to do so far is to crash my wounded plane, after doing none of the required tactics.
Waiting to see if I am going to buy. Who wants to take point?
