How to uninstall GSX...
« on: February 12, 2012, 05:55:03 pm »
Hi, I have tried for three consecutive times to uninstall GSX from the ADD/REMOVE option within Windows 7 Home edition, but evey time I start up FSX I get a green bar at the top saying that GSX is working on the airport CACHE memory, and  loads, loads, and loads for good 5 minutes... when I uninstall the first tree times I said YES to both questions whether I wanted to remove the add on manager, etc.
I have donwloaded the add on manager from the INFO page and still it looks like is running GSX. I just would like not to have GSX install in my computer at the moment. Is there a way? Thanks

If you've uninstalled everything and said yes to both addon manager and couatl, you should be able to just delete anything left in the GSX directory and be rid of it.  Just don't forget to reinstall the addon manager later, or you'll have problems with FSDT sceneries.

This sentence is not very clear. Please clarify.

There's nothing "hidden", the uninstaller uninstalls what it needs to uninstall.

But a complete uninstall is happening only if you reply YES to the questions "Do you want to remove the Addon Manager?" and "Do you want to remove the Couatl scripting engine ?", which will also alert that, if you remove them, no addon using those modules will work anymore (all FSDT products, Flightbeam products, the QW757, etc.), that's why the uninstaller doesn't remove them, unless you told to do that specifically.

This means, if you really want to uninstall GSX and continue to use our sceneries, you must remove GSX with the complete uninstall explained above, and then reinstall all the sceneries.

Note that, uninstalling GSX doesn't really make any sense, even if you don't own it.

It's free to use at all our sceneries, and you need it in order to get all their features, such as docking systems for example. If you don't intend to use it elsewhere, just don't call it, it won't do anything and won't take any memory or processing time from FSX if you don't use it.

Reinstalled JFK and i start my FSX first question would i aktivate GSX
.

Your message is not very clear. However, are you saying that you are getting a question about *activating* GSX when FSX STARTS???

I'm sorry, but this just can't happen by "simply" installing GSX. It can ONLY happen is YOU put a GSX Serial Number in the Windows registry, and the only way you can do that, is one of the following:

1) You selected the "Register Serial" option to explicitly trying to activate GSX. However, if the activation didn't worked, the Serial would NOT remain in the registry so, it's not possible that you are constantly asked to activate GSX at each FSX start, if this is what is happening.

OR

2) You manually edited the registry to insert something as a GSX Serial Number. I doubt you did that...

OR

3) Sorry to say but, the only possible remaining option, is that you used some kind of non-working and old crack for Cloud9/FSDT products (and even a crack for the PMDG 737 did that), and THIS has caused a problem with your registry, putting bogus serial numbers that can't be activated, but since the Addon Manager see "some" Serial in the GSX registry entry, is prompting you to activate it.

Quote
Also pls tell me where are the files hidden

As I've said, there are NO HIDDEN FILES whatsoever. But your registry might contain a Serial Number for GSX, and the uninstaller doesn't obviously remove it, since it would be wrong to remove a Serial just because you are uninstalling (you wouldn't want to lose your activation by simply uninstalling).

But in your case, perhaps you have a fake Serial Number, I guess that if you had a real Serial Number for GSX, you would activate it, instead of wondering why FSX is prompting you to activate, wouldn't you ?

Quote
i hope u can tell me how i can fix that, then this is disapointing anoying, and makes me tired. thanks ??? ???

If your Serial is REAL, you can "fix" this, by simply ACTIVATING it. I'm not sure I understood you entirely: it's not clear if you BOUGHT GSX, and don't want to use it anymore, so you want to get rid of it entirely, including its activation, the obvious solution is to simply use the "Deactivate" feature of the Addon Manager, so your valid GSX Serial Number can be removed.

If, instead, you can't do this, it's because your Serial is fake, then you must edit the registry MANUALLY, since you can't Deactivate a product if you don't Activate it first but, of course, you can't Activate if your Serial is not real.

So, to remove a request for a bogus Serial that has been inserted for some reason in the registry, you must remove the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Fsdreamteam\GSX

using the REGEDIT program which comes with Windows. This will clean your registry for any Serial Number that was there, which prompted the Addon Manager to reactivate each time you start FSX.

Quote
at last i use AES and happy with it, i dont want use your Product GSX and i dont want have allways this message.

You can continue to use AES for all the services, and use GSX, if only to have the docking systems, for example.

Most AES users use GSX or a combination of GSX+AES at our airport, because GSX is entirely FREE there, and you don't get all the scenery features if you don't install GSX. But installing GSX won't prevent in any way to use AES.

Once I'm home I'll get to the reason I'm going to go assuming that it is a joke they've written here, but I'll look up the check, I'm in my order history and also in the registry, I'm 100% sure that only I have access to this PC to this is included in the basement and no one knows the password, as I will clarify the matter.

with Kindly regards.

EDIT: i have the Produkt aktivated via manager, .... its allways disapointing

and i know now why i hate GSX u must have a Exam for activation.... very anoying, -.-

I now want uninstal did i allways get the information for activation ???

I find a bit difficult to understand you here. Have you read my previous message ? I'll try to be as clear as possible:

- Uninstalling doesn't have anything to do with this. If you are STILL being asked to activate a GSX Serial when FSX starts, it means there IS a Serial for it, IN THE REGISTRY

- The Serial in the registry can only be of two kinds:

1) A LEGIT Serial, which you can only obtained by purchasing GSX (is still not clear from your message if BOUGHT it or not).

In this case, you will stop the request to activate it...by simply ACTIVATING IT!! Regardless if you intend to use it or not or if you uninstalled it, if there's a Serial pending its activation, the Addon Manager will ask to activate it at each FSX starts, until the activation finally completes successfully. After having Activated successfully, the message will obviously go away, and you can also Deactivate it, in order to recover an Activation, should you reinstall it in the future. This is what NORMALLY happens, with a legit Serial Number.

2) A FAKE Serial, which might have ended up in the registry EITHER because you edit the registry keys manually and put something there OR because a crack ran on your system, even a long time ago, the registry key won't go away unless you manually remove it. This will, of course, trigger the same activation request at each FSX start but, since the Serial can't obviously be activated online (but the Addon Manager doesn't know the Serial *will* be refused online, so it tries again, and again, at each FSX start), you can't exit from this situation, which is not obviously caused by any of our installers, but it's the result of a problem with your registry that normally doesn't happen, UNLESS you clean your registry MANUALLY.

As I've said in my previous message, to remove a request for a bogus Serial that has been inserted for ANY reason in the registry, you must remove the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Fsdreamteam\GSX

I'll repeat it again, this doesn't have anything to do with our installation or some conspiracy theory that we would intentionally make our products hard to remove, because in a NORMAL situation, there will be no such nagging about reactivating because, either you don't have ANY Serial in the registry (because you installed the Trial only) OR you have a LEGIT Serial in the registry, and after you activate it successfully, and the activation request will go away.

I hope is clearer now...

AT FIRST : yes i have a normal Key for GSX,

Yes, this is the FIRST time you say it. It would have been better if you SAID so, so I wouldn't had to explain about how a possibly bogus serial number in your registry.

Quote
AT SECOND: I DONT WANT, that it gives Conflict between AES and GSX so i want GSX uninstall them then.

This is just plain wrong. GSX does not cause ANY conflict with AES.

Just having GSX installed, without calling it, will not do anything on an airport. And AES support for some of our airports, such as JFK for example, takes for granted that GSX is at least *installed* (even if not USED), so it doesn't come with AES docking systems that usually are added on airports that don't have them. Since JFK HAS them (with GSX) AES doesn't duplicate them, and assumes you are going to install GSX anyway, if only for the docking systems.

On top of that, you can also DISABLE GSX on a list of ICAO codes, see the explanation of the disable_on_airports parameter in the .ini file at Page 19 of the GSX manual. The reason for this, is PRECISELY to use AES (you might just add the list of all the airports you purchased AES credits for), so you won't be able to activate GSX there, not even by mistake.

Since you bought it, the more obvious choice if you want to use AES only, would be disabling GSX at airports where you bought credits for (so you can't call GSX, not even by mistake), and leave GSX for all the thousand airports that are not supported by AES.

Since you *bought* GSX, I might very well not care if you Uninstall GSX or not and prefer AES (you already *bought* it...), but I don't want you to Uninstall it for the WRONG reasons, like a supposed "conflict" with AES, which is not the case.

Quote
AT THIRD: MY QUESTION: when i uninstall the GSX did the Program ask me again after Start FSX something?

Not sure I understand you. If you Uninstall GSX, it doesn't make any difference to what you are being asked at the next FSX start up:

- This activation request is NOT COMING FROM GSX!! Is coming from the Addon Manager, and you can't uninstall that one, because you need it for all our sceneries to work.

- This activation request will come or not, regardless if the product requested (GSX) is installed or not. And it comes out only if your Serial is still not Activated.

BUT:

From your screenshot, it seems the Addon Manager is reporting GSX to be already Active. If this is the case, is NOT supposed to ask for your Serial Number when FSX starts.

Could you please indicate EXACTLY what request you see now ?
