Zurich Pauses
« on: July 19, 2011, 06:57:21 pm »
Hi, I've downloaded several trials to try and decide on a purchase.  (DFW, FLL, HNL, LAS, LSZH).  They are all amazing looking and most of them work flawlessly.  My plan was to pick one airport (KLAS running a strong first) and then get Zurich for the reduced rate.  Unfortunately, Zurich alone suffers from a long 2 second pause every few seconds.  It happens in any plane, day or night.  It freezes everything; the mouse, the menus, camera, AI, etc.

It must be something on my end, because I can't find any other topics about it in this forum.  Any thoughts?

2 second pauses it's really a lot, this might be caused by missing files trying to be created. Are you sure you downloaded the full installer, and not the update ?

However, it's still strange, especially the frozen mouse. There's no way a scenery could cause this, unless your video driver has a problem. You can try updating to the most current version of your video driver, and resetting all its video settings to default.

Thanks for the quick response.  I was wrong about mouse freezing.  You can still move mouse pointer but the menus can't be selected while it's occuring.  My install exe is called zurichx_setup.exe which I'm pretty sure is the full installer.  I'm using the latest Nvidia whql's.

The pause is similar to that when UT2 loads traffic but it happens after traffic is already loaded and does it consistently every 4 seconds or so.  I tried disabling UT2 to see if that helped, but it still occurs the same way even with no traffic.  I don't have any weather program running.

So strange that out of the 5 airports I've tried, it only happens here.  I'll be picking up one of your American sceneries either way, so no worries though.  Just hard to turn down Zurich at that price.

EDIT:  Just to update, when the trial period ends, the strange pausing stops.

Are you sure you downloaded the full installer, and not the update ? This would be consistent with missing objects (not present in the update)

My install file is called zurichx_setup.exe and is 75.6MB downloaded and 269MB installed.  I got the DL the same place as the others;  on the Products page, "Download FSX version".

Perhaps I'll try and DL it from a different link within your website.

EDIT:  Downloaded from within the actual product page but the package had the same name and produced the same results.

That file seems to be the correct one.

Try to install the Stand-Alone Addon Manager for FSX, available on each "Info" page of every product.

I downloaded and installed the stand alone addon manager.  Is there something in it's settings I should try changing?

Well, I'm at a loss.  I've tried just about everything I can think of and still get these pauses.  They occur like clockwork, unfailingly every 3-4 seconds and always last the same length.  Knowing that your scenery uses Simconnect, it's almost like it's calling for a scenery element that is not there or corrupted in some way.

I've downloaded and re-installed it several different times from different links on the site.  Strangely, I've now used your trial feature on almost all your scenery (bad idea, I want them all now  ;D ) and this is the only one with an issue.  Unfortunately, it's also the most affordable and I wanted to use it to trigger the cross sell and $10 off coupon.

That's exactly what I've though at first, which is why I asked if you had the correct version.

It's possible to verify this by enabling the Simconnect diagnostic mode, this way:

Open Notepad, and copy the following text:

Code: [Select]
[SimConnect]
level=normal
console=1
RedirectStdOutToConsole=1
OutputDebugString=1
; file=c:\simconnect%03u.log
; file_next_index=0
; file_max_index=9

Save the file as SIMCONNECT.INI in this folder:

Documents And Settings\YOUR LOGIN NAME\Documents\Microsoft Flight Simulator X Files

At the next FSX launch, you should see a text window with diagnostic messages scrolling down, try to identify if there are things that looks like errors when there's a pause.

Ok, that what it was...it's something we changed in preparation for the Zurich update that shouldn't have been included yet.

Reinstall the Stand-Alone Addon Manager for FSX again, and it will be fixed.

That did it!  Pauses are gone.  Thanks for looking into this when I was only a "Trial" customer.

Notice I said "was" though, because I've bought KLAS and KFLL this morning!   :D
