I'll be frank regarding Aerosoft and ORBX, I have put them into the "show me" category. Meaning, come up with something that is truely ground breaking (not PeopleFlow or ObjectFlow), looks good and performs well, and maybe I will give it a shot. Until then, I think I will stay away since neither offer sceneries/airports that are in locations that I fly often anyway.
Yes, I find it unbelievingly frustrating when a developer doesn't offer a trial, and that turned my off quite a bit from ORBX especially (because I usually can't run Aerosoft at all).
I also agree that Aerosoft and ORBX need something innovating that can run well and look good because they seem to both be impressive but why spend $40+ on a product that only runs in the mid teens to single digit frames?
