Ray...

Yes, I did.  Im working on it now, along with some other texture implementations.  Still havent heard from Dave, so Im thinking about forgo'ing the prior textures (VFA-15 and VFA-115) and using ones that are "open-use and free-ware" and Lars' VFA-103 Line texture.

Fael...

I dont think we are allowed to do that, those are MS copyright files that we cannot send over this forum.  I think thats the problem, not that we arent listening to you... just that we are limited by legality.

I see sludge, I assumed you could because MS authorized to modify the hornet for non commercial purposes, so I thought distribution was included, but yeah, copyright questions are always controversal.

cheers

Fael,
If it's the default texture that you lost, can you get it back by browsing the MS disc? If that didn't work, can u just do a "repair" to get it back?

Fael...

Really good job.  I see what youve done and it looks great.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just dont know how you can re-distribute that to the general public?  Maybe I'm reading too much into this?  Virtuali might have an answer?  Give him a holler and see if its a problem to send out a modded baseline texture file that looks far better, IMO, than the original.  Or someone else here that might have an idea?

Sludge,
I believe you can distribute it, just like any other repaints. if you want to add it to your installer, simply make it backup and replace the original texture inside the fa-18 texture.7 folder, and then on uninstalling, it deletes the custom one and rename the backup back again.

shouldnt be against the law or anything.

Fael...

You might be right?  I was thinking about that yesterday and it actually might be better to put it in the Texture folder in the Sludge Hornets.  That way, it doesnt interfere with the default Hornet and I think it will get used instead of the texture.7 folder of the default?

Let me give that some flight testing.  I know Ive done it for the HUD glass.dds, and the main05_T (the one with the new interior DDIs/UFC and the USMC pilot with gold wings), so Ill give that a try later tonite and see if it works as advertised.

sludge, i believe if you place that texture on EACH sludge hornet texture folder, then it will use it. or you can make a texture.7 folder for the sludge hornet, containing same specular texture files as the accel hornet's texture.7 folder, but with my modified one, and then edit the fallback paths (the appopriate line that redirects to mentioned folder) for all of sludge textures.

both ways should work

FSX will initially check the texture folder, then start checking each fallback folder listed in the texture.cfg.  If you drop it in the main texture folder of the Sludge Hornet, and if the fallbacks are the same as I originally set them when creating the test version to show Sludge, it should work just fine.

Best not to modify the default Hornet.
