How Many
« on: January 11, 2011, 12:43:48 am »
How many of the following entries should be in the "fsx.cfg" file?

* \FSX\fsdreamteam\couatl\couatl.exe

* \FSX\bglmanx.dll

Should there be these two for only 1 scenery or only these two for all sceneries? If I need only these two entries for the sceneries I have, can I delete the others?

Thanks

Each time you trust a new version of a module, a new line in the fsx.cfg will be created by FSX so, if a module gets updated and trusted often, you'll have many lines for it.

However, the additional lines don't do anything, they are there only in case you'll use one of the older version, since its line is already there, a new trust request will not repeated, since FSX already "knows" that module, because it launched it at least once. Other than that, you can have many lines, but only the one related to the currently used module is needed.

In any case, our installers will automatically clean your FSX.CFG from all our entires (current and past) in the [Trusted] section, if you reply "YES" to the questions "Do you want to remove the Addon Manager?" and "Do you want to remove the Couatl script engine?", that are made when uninstalling any of our sceneries.

Thanks for responding. I am afraid you have exceeded my ability to fully understand what you have said. Let me ask you - if I remove all mentioned entries from my "fsx.cfg" file and then start FSX, will it install only what is needed to support all the sceneries that need it? Of course, I will backup my "fsx.cfg" beforehand.

Let me ask you - if I remove all mentioned entries from my "fsx.cfg" file and then start FSX, will it install only what is needed to support all the sceneries that need it?

The fsx.cfg it's not list of the currently installed modules, (the DLL.XML and EXE.XML files are used for that), it's only used to keep track of what modules you have trusted to run so it doesn't keep repeating the trusting question each time you start FSX.

This means, if you have many entries of the same module, it's because that module was updated several times and each new version requires to be trusted and a new line will be created in the fsx.cfg, but only ONE module at the same time would be loaded anyway, the multiple lines are only there so you will not be asked to trust something that you already trusted, in case you'll end up using an previous version.

So, to be even more clear, how many entries you have in the [Trusted] section is irrelevant, because only one is loaded in any case, but we clear our entries when doing a total Uninstall, both because users like to have the fsx.cfg tidy, and because sometimes the Windows trust system gives issues, and forcing to re-trust a module might fix problems.
