Park Me/Parking Guides not recognizing aircraft type...
« on: August 23, 2010, 04:46:30 am »
I am having difficulty with parking directions at DFW.  I've been flying the Leonardo MD-80 and while the manual doesn't list the Leonardo Maddog specifically, it says the MD-80 is a recognized aircraft type.  Whenever I setup to park at a gate (I've been activating Park Me to do this), I get directions off the parking director in front of the gate until approximately the point where my nosewheel is 100-150' from the stop mark.  At this point the parking director suddenly changes to "STOP" and flashes the messaged "ID FAIL".

Does anybody have an idea what's going wrong and how I can fix it?  Thanks.

In theory, once the airplane has been identified, there shouldn't be any problems: the gear position is read from FSX so, any airplane should be supported, we don't have any airplane-specific code for 3rd party airplanes. Is this MD-80 an FSX native model, or it's ported from FS9 ?

I had this problem too. You need to change the title of the aircraft in the aircraft.cfg file for the maddog from MD-82 to MD-80 and it will recognize the aircraft. Park Me apparantly only recognizes the code MD-80 for the series and uses the aircraft title to recognize the aircraft. You need to do this for every livery you have installed with the plane.

[fltsim.0]
title=LSH MD-80 McDonnell Douglas
sim=md-82

Thank you all for the reply.  I will try changing the information to MD-80...I had wondered about a problem like this, but am very limited on time at the moment and hadn't looked too far in to it.

In response to Virtuali's questions, the Leonardo Maddog is an FS9 native model, but given the minimum amount of reworking to make it FSX compatible before it went on sale.

Try to update with this file, to be put in the following folder:

FSX\fsdreamteam\Couatl\common\

replacing the file with the same name that is already there. It will now detect MD80, 81 and 82 models. Note that, the SafeGate panel will still display "MD80", but that just because the graphic doesn't support other MD8x models.

I used the PMDG747-8i at parking spot D16 and when I get so close it says "stop-ID FAIL". I am using FSX sp2
I installed the aircraftid.pye and it is the same!

This file fixed things for me with the MD-80/1/2 series.  Thanks for the help.

Virtualli, I tried changing the values in the acft config to 747-800 and still get "id fail".

I've checked the code and, it need to be called "B747" to be recognized. There's no need to change it to -800, you can leave it at 8i, if you want, but it's important the title contains "B747" instead of "747"

You can use this method as a temporary fix, until we update the code to recognize both designations.

I just got KDFW and find that the Quality Wings 757 isn't recognized by Park Me. The aircraft.cfg title for this plane doesn't include "B" and just refers to the plane as "QualityWings 757-xxx". Similarly, the Captain Sim 757 also doesn't include the "B" in the title. Is there an updated file available that adds these planes or must I alter the aircraft.cfg for every model?

Thanks,
Robert
