Double select GSX when starting a flight
« on: April 12, 2025, 01:25:25 pm »
Hello! I love GSX and it is with the Fenix my most used Addon for MSFS 2020!

Maybe i miss something or i am doing something wrong and someone can help me:
When I start the sim and load into a parking spot, for example 201 in EDDM, GSX shows up. That is perfectly fine.
I then want the Jetway to dock and also all the GSX vehicles to show up next to my plane. Because stand 201 has a jetway I click on "Operate Jetway". The GSX menu then just closes and nothing happens. I go to the toolbar and click on the GSX logo so that the menu appears again. I click then again on "Operate Jetway" and then another menu opens asking me about the operator and i select Lufthansa. Then everything starts as it should.

Why do i have to click twice on "Operate Jetway"? Why does it not work on the first time? That happens only when I start my first flight. It really is not a BIG problem, i have been wondering if I do something wrong here.

Are you using the menu correctly, as explained in the manual ?

Quote
This is now your normal workflow should be:

• Open the GSX menu from the Toolbar icon only when first starting Ground services.

• Don’t close it from the Toolbar while Ground services are performed, always use the Hot-key or the X icon to close the menu.

• Always use the Hot-key to re-open the menu, and always close it either with the Hot-key or the X icon.

• Close the menu using the Toolbar icon when you are done with Ground services, usually before take-off.

This is my screen after i select a gate and start a new flight. (i have not pressed a single button)

When i click on "operate jetway" nothing happens. the menu just disappears.
I get it back by pressing STRG ALT F12 and click on "operate jetway" again. THEN i get ask which ground services i want to use.

Ok, i think i got the solution to "my problem".

After landing when the Fenix and GSX starts the automatic deboarding process after I cut the power to the engines, is just left GSX as it was and did not really close it really.

So this time after my flight I made sure that the GSX symbol in the Toolbar was dark (Off). When I got back to the main menu and then when i started a new flight the GSX did not show up automatically like it did before.
When i opened it up via the Toolbar i clicked on "operate stairs" and it immediately worked as it should.

I never thought there would be a difference wether GSX is selected (white symbol in the toolbar oder dark symbol).

That's why we have a whole chapter in the manual explaining the difference, and the correct way of using the menu.

Yes. I had a look through the manual before i posted but i was looking at a different spot and therefore did not see the paragraph you are referring to.
I finally found it on page 9: "The menu Hot-key will only work if the GSX Toolbar icon is Active ( icon is White
), because for performance reasons, all Javascript code in toolbar add-ons doesn’t
run when their Toolbar icon is Inactive ( icon is Darkened ), which means when
you start a Flight, you must first open GSX from the Toolbar icon using the mouse,
making the toolbar icon Active, which from now on will respond to the Hot-key
until the end of the Flight. If you close GSX using the Toolbar icon, making the
Icon Inactive again, you’ll have to open it again from the Toolbar before the Hotkey can be reactivated.
We suggest opening the menu from the Toolbar icon when starting Ground opera- tions, and closing it before Takeoff, since you will likely not need Ground services
until landing. This way, you can save a bit of performances, because when closing
the menu from the Toolbar icon, the menu code execution is immediately stopped.
Possible Key conflicts
It’s your responsibility to choose a combination that hasn’t been assigned to another
function in Flight Simulator. The Control panel can’t check this, so be careful not
to reuse a key that is used in the simulation, or by another add-on. However, even
in case of a key conflict, it won’t affect the simulation if the GSX Toolbar Icon is
Inactive, since no key interception can happen in that state."

This is between "GSX Hotkey Configuration" and "Passenger explanation".  I expected this to be prior the first flight.

But nice that this has been sorted out.  :) thank you for your help!

That's the 2nd place were we had to repeat the concept, since lots of people don't read the manual entirely, so we assumed that, by repeating at Page 9 what has been explained at Page 91 in a more complete way, we'd reduce the chances to somebody missing this, and Page 9 is surely early enough, because it's still in the general presentation and configuration section, before what IS GSX Pro chapter even starts, at Page 13.
