No sound despite OpenAL device selected.
« on: January 24, 2025, 12:43:23 am »
Lately I have an issue with GSX where no sound comes through. Previously it worked.

When I open GSX settings, OpenAL is selected. If I change to Generic Software, and close the window, coatl engine is restarted and setting goes back to OpenAL (with no sound)

For some reason, Coatl goes by default to "mute"

Is your audio device compatible with Open AL ? Are you using standard Windows drivers or 3rd party drivers ? Sometimes the default Windows drivers might have better OpenAL support, sometimes it's the opposite.

Also, is your device removable, like a wireless or bluetooth ?

It worked before, so I presume it must be? I am using bluetooth headphones. Using deafult windows drivers, never thought to do anything different.

Removable devices need to be active before starting GSX, this usually requires only restarting the Couatl engine, never the sim, since GSX audio engine is completely separated from the one in the sim.

It is. I will check if restaring Couatl engine will help.

Well, after the last message, I had a mostly uneventful couple of weeks, and now the sound is gone (again), even after Coatl restart.

Does it make a difference if the BT device is connected immediately on Windows boot? I always make sure it's on before MSFS starts, but perhaps it's not enough?

It should be enough to be connected before GSX (the Couatl engine) starts, since we are running outside the sim, so which devices are used in the sim shouldn't matter.

It's definitely connected before Couatl. And this time round, definitely also before startup.

I don't know what's going on. I appreciate it's difficult do diagnose remotely with scarce info as well.

I am an idiot.

I never mentioned that I fly the FSlabs A321.
The plane has a working audio control panel. It will supress the sound when you don't have Intercom turned up.
