GSX installation - MSFS2020
« on: February 04, 2025, 08:48:33 pm »
Hi everyone.

I am reaching out here as I have reached my wits end. I have a 1.5 yr old PC (i9, 13900k, 32GB with 6TB M.2 storage , 4090 GPU) .

I have owned GSX Pro for over a year and my experience has been a smooth one until about a 2 weeks ago when the software updated to 3.3 and then 3.4. The installer would crash in the middle of the update however the installer would show the update as installed. Nothing in my system had changed . No firewall or antivirus in place either. My sim was running very smooth up until 2 weeks ago.

The updater crash however I noticed was affecting the sim. my MSFS2020 was no longer stable and I have many CTD when trying to launch. to fix the CTD issue I would reinstall GSX (unsuccessfully) however the sim would open.

I finally decided I had enough, I did a lot of research, looking at MS logs, event viewer error output(attached) and the reference was to kernelbase.dll file

I bit the bullet and went for a full reset of the PC (i only use this computer for simming) hoping that a clean PC would end the misery.

I cleared out my community folder that resides on a secondary drive as well and left nothing to chance.

reinstalled MSFS2020 and attempted to install GSX and sure enough the same crash is happening as you can see in the log.

I am also using the latest installer downloaded from FSDREAMTEAM

GSX is a vital part of my library and I don't see any reason why it should not work for me. I have a long road ahead to rebuild my sim and import back all my add-ons as you can imagine. I am hoping all this work does not go to waste.

Thanks in advance - Kam

Further update : I reset the PC one more time , this time I went to factory  settings meaning the state of a brand new PC.

reInstalled MSFS2020 with nothing in the community folder.

The programfiles(86)\addon folder has been added to Defender as an exclusion for virus scans

both Update2.exe and updater.exe have been added to the safe list in Defender in both public and private groups.

still getting the ghost installer crashes and the download task errors.

my only course of action left at this point is to disable GSX for now and hope  for a resolution in the future.

Need to get back in the skies.

Life will go on :)

Setting the state of a brand new PC might not be enough. Have you performed each and every possible Windows update that has been released after your recovery partition was made ? According to your log, the installer doesn't crash in our code, but in KERNELBASE32.DLL, which is something at the base of the OS, like a memory allocation issue.

Since the FSDT installer is a .NET application, it's not supposed to be responsible for memory allocation, this is done by the .NET runtimes so, your issue might be caused by an outdated .NET runtime, a missed Windows update or both.

Hi Umberto and many thanks for the reply. The errors persist. my Windows11 is up to date and I am running the latest Framework.NET

Attaching 2 of the latest log files. I will continue to research and try to look for a fix.

Thanks
