GSX Pro - request help
« on: January 14, 2025, 04:02:07 pm »
I have just installed GSX Pro but would appreciate any advice on getting it working. When I start msfs2020 there is no GSX option on the msfs toolbar.
I am running win11 with my msfs community folder on drive F which is formatted as NTFS.
The installer was run as Administator and did not report any problems and is showing Active but I notice that no links have been created in the Community folder.
I have also installed FSDT Zurich and that has created a link in the community folder.

When msfs is running Task Manager shows both the couatl64_boot and Couatl Scripting Engines active.

I would gratefully appreciate any help.

Surprised (and disappointed) not to have any replies to my problem - where is Tech Support.

but I notice that no links have been created in the Community folder.

This is the main issue and it just shouldn't happen, if the drive is formatted in NTFS and the installer can run with admin rights, links will surely be created. Also, it's even more strange the fact that the same installer running under the same conditions is able to create links for FSDT Zurich, the code is clearly the same.

Are you sure you don't have real folders there ?

Also, you say you have your Community folder on F: but, have you moved it in the correct way ( editing the UserCFG.OPT file with the path of the CONTENT folder, the one that *contains* both Community and Official ) or you did something else, like linking just the Community folder there, which is the wrong way to move the Content elsewhere ?

Umberto - thanks for the response. I can confirm that all the drives are ntfs and that the userCFG.OPT is pointing to the correct place (both Community and Official are on the same drive).
I have had some success, I did a full reinstall of msfs2020 but kept the original Community folder. installed gsx pro and got the same result - no links in the community folder. I then renamed the community folder and created a new one (empty obviously). ran the gsx install and the links appeared. Copied the contents of the saved folder and everything now appears to work (a few pink bits but I am sure I can resolve that problem).

Now just have to learn how to use GSX!!

That looks like you didn't had permissions on the old Community folder. But since you created a new one yourself, no matted which level of permission your Windows user account has, you'll always have permissions to write there.
