This is why I don't understand FSX and it's graphic engine. Why does need SO much power to ran properly?
I don't see why it's necessary to OC a 2.80 GHz I7 CPU.
Probably just because its old code that doens't really take advantage of todays multi core processors.
However, OC'ing your cpu is not a big deal and is easier done than in the old days and a lot safer provided you keep an eye on your temps. Its the biggest "free" way to gain performance in FSX. You will never hear anyone saying to get a slower processor, its always been this way with MS flight sims. The faster the CPU the better and easier it will run.
Hopefully in the future if a new sim comes, it will be written to take better advantage of multicore procs.
