No buldings **SOLVED**
« on: March 29, 2010, 04:06:40 pm »
I am having the same problem at JFK.  No buildings at any time.  All other airports are fine including Aerosoft Frankfurt, Charles De Gaulle, Boston, Heathrow etc.  I checked compatibility modes for FSX.EXE and none of the compatibilty boxes are checked.  Also running Ultimate Traffic 2, REX, Super Traffic Board.

Buildings disappear

From your description of the problem, if you don't see any buildings at any time, it's the more common problem of something that is preventing our software to run. Most likely the antivirus. Try the following:

- Uninstall the scenery. Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine. Reply YES to both questions.

- TURN OFF your antivirus. Don't just exit from its interface, but turn off the real time protection. Actual wording changes between products, however, it's the option to scan every file that gets open in real time, without user intervention.

- Reinstall the scenery with the Antivirus TURNED OFF. Don't launch FSX yet.

- Configure the antivirus to exclude the following files from scanning:

YourFSXFolder\bglmanx.dll
YourFSXFolder\fsdreamteam\couatl.exe

YourFSXFolder it's usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, if you installed it in the default folder.

- Now you can turn the antivirus back on, and launch FSX.

- Check you are seeing BOTH the "Addon Manager" menu AND the "Couatl powered plugins" menu under the "Addons" menu.

I am having the same problem.  However, I cannot seem to figure out how to add those files to exclude them from being scanned by my antivirus software.  I have McAfee Security Center and I just can't seem to find it.

If I reinstall, it works fine for one time, but the next time I log in, all the buildings are gone and I no longer have the Couatl powered plugins under the add ons menu.  I figure it has to do with the antivirus software, but I just can't figure it out.  I spent about 2 hours going through all the options and never saw anything like that.  Any help from anyone familiar with McAfee would be much appreciated.  Thanks!!

Edit:  After searching through the forums even more, I discovered that sometimes the couatl.exe file will still be running after you close down FSX.  It seemed to stay up there long after I closed down FSX.  So I manually cut it off.  Next time I started up FSX and loaded up JFK, the buildings were there.

So I took a break from the computer and shut down FSX.  I came back and checked to see if the couatl.exe file was running.  It was not.  So I loaded up FSX and wallah...the buildings were still there.  I don't know a lot about computers, but I think I might have figured it out??  I'll be sure to post if I do not.

Yes, this might be something to check. It's not that Couatl.exe doesn't close, it's just that your FSX is quite slow in closing, probably because you are low on physical RAM so, a lot of Virtual Memory (hdd space used in place of ram) has been used so, when FSX closes, it takes longer to free all the used memory, because there's a lot of disk activity involved so, the .exe will close, but it might take longer than normal.
