and meanwhile every bitmap flickers

and at the end I have an infinite loading animation of the mouse!

Why?

Shouldn't a smart update program say you're up-to-date? Or am I still in the 1990s?
This is so embarrassing

Sure, if you read the Sticky Thread with the latest release notes, which explained why always downloading THAT specific file is normal, it would have saved you some embarrassment:

NOTE: The Airport Services and Jetways sceneries ZIP files are supposed to be downloaded every time, this is normal. And unencrypted versions of FSDT airport files for FSDT sceneries bought on the MS Marketplace will also be downloaded every time, this is also normal.

The reason for this, is that we found those two files are made up of thousands of very small files, which compress very highly, so it was WAY faster to "just" always download them, rather than checking individually thousands of small files to see if each one needed an update. The download was way faster than the check, in this case.
