Video Card Recommendation
« on: December 17, 2009, 10:13:18 pm »
Hello all,

I am purchasing a new video card. I am currently using an ati radeon 1650x and would like to ugprade. Any recommendations on a 150$ budget. i was looking at these:

Galaxy GeForce GTS 250 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Link DVI, HDMI, HDTV, SLI Ready

or

XFX ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB GDDR2 AGP Video Card

What is recommended when using FSX with say for example fsdreamteam kjfk...i am currently getting about 9-11fps with about 40% traffic and graphics at a medium range.

I am also running 4gb of ram.
any recommendations in terms of video card that will allow me to get better frames?

cheers

What CPU are you using ? If the CPU is the bottleneck, changing the video card will not help much.

Also, be careful about those two cards you selected: one is PCI-E, the other is AGP so, one or the other is not right for your system.

Thanks so much for the comment,

I am using the following PC:

hp 1640n
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 (C) DC 1.86 GHz
Motherboard Name: P5BW-LA
4GB Ram Memory
Speed supported PC2-4200 MB/sec
Type 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM
pci-exprses slots so the AGP will not be compatible.

any suggestions?

Your CPU is going to be very strained.  The graphics card isn't a stellar one either, but I would really look for the CPU first.

Your CPU is way to slow for FSX. U will have to overclock it , but a new graphics card isn't going to help. FSX's performance depends mainly on your CPU speed.
