Pause on Short Finals
« on: July 09, 2019, 11:57:04 pm »
Latest update for GSX installed
... on short finals there is a paaaause as it seems that GSX (or is it SODE??) loads in the background
... disabled GSX and tried the same airport (EHAM) and same runway (36C) and no pause
... load GSX and same airport, same runway, pause is back
Then did a flight from EHAM to EKCH and same story for rwy 04L

Is it only on my rig or has anybody else notice this longish pause on short finals with the latest GSX version?
As it is, P3D comes with its own specialised and customised pauses and really does not need any help  ;D

This has been discussed so many times on the forum, for example here:

Nothing in the latest version changed, it was exactly the same in the previous version and, as explained many times, the only real solution would be if Simobjects could be loaded in multithreading, just like terrain, and this of course wouldn't benefit just GSX, but even more AI packages too, but it's not something we can do from our side, it must be a core simulator enhancement.

I noticed this into PHOG yesterday.  In the past I have seen a blip of a pause, maybe a blink of the eye, with the update it was a true pause to the point I wondered if the sim was crashing.
Going to try by starting at the destination airport, loading it into cache and then going to my departure airport and starting the flight.  Hoping it was just the first time the airport loaded.

Nothing in the update could possibly have any effect on PHOG, assuming you mean FSDT PHOG installed as default.

This because, we haven't updated it yet to use SODE jetways, it still comes with its own original jetways, which (being custom models) won't be replaced automatically by GSX so, what might possibly have changed with the update in a default scenery, or with an FSDT scenery that comes with GSX/SODE jetways, cannot possibly happen at PHOG, unless you went to the process of replacing its original jetways with GSX models.

Other than jetways, nothing in the update could possibly have any changes at PHOG. The only possible reason of a pause on load which might be *different* than the usual pause on load all FSDT sceneries have ( about 10NM out so it's surely NOT "short finals" ), is that you have preselected a GSX gate while still in flying, so the pause you see are the GSX vehicles being created on gate, to be there for you when you taxi. Those being way more detailed in general, not just because of PBR, CAN possibly take more time to load than the previous version.

But if you select a GSX gate after landing, nothing in GSX could possibly affect the scenery on final, since GSX is not doing anything until you select a gate.
