Blank panel.
« on: December 10, 2007, 08:40:58 pm »
I've blank panel in my f-18. Actually I want to insert a pic of my cockpit, but I dont know how?? But here the story. I installed as usual, but when using F-18 both in mission or free flight there is no picture or some words in that 3 panel. It's like turn off, all in black and dark. anyone can help me?

I already read and open my Panel.cfg in D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\FA-18\Panel but I dont change anything because I dont understand.

what should I do?

When you are in free flight, FSX uses the cockpit configuration that you have set.  I'm guessing that your default cockpit configuration is 2-D cockpit.  Since there is no 2-D cockpit defined in the panel.cfg file, you don't get a cockpit display when in 2-D cockpit.  In order to define a 2-D cockpit, I would suggest that you review the panel SDK.

It looks like the gauges weren't loaded. There's probably something wrong with your Acceleration installation. Have you tried repair it ?

Hi,

Yes, I've already try to uninstall FSX and all the add-on including Acceleration. That pic is after I install for the 2nd time. And also with Agusta helicopter, I thougt first that because of millitary aircraft so that it is not in fully detail. Do you know how to fix that problem? Just for the information, I have all SDK but I don't have C+ or C# or something else.

No, the gauges should be fully modeled, and should look like those screenshots:

If FSX can't load the gauges, it's nothing you can fix with SDK, it might be something related to Simconnect not working. Perhaps a firewall blocking Simconnect communications, or a missing C++ runtime (but this should be fixed by the Acceleration installer).

Hi,

Ok, I will try to unistall everything. And I will format my hard drive and re-installed windows again. I hope it'll work. Thanks for the technical info.

Best Regards

I have a question regarding the mirrors, in dx10 do the mirrors work like in Lockon or is the mirror reflection not yet modeled?

No, real "mirroring" mirrors are not supported in flight sim, not even in DX10.

Thats strange as lockon is dx9 and it has them, could FSX aircraft get modified to have them modeled or is it an engine limitation?

It's an FS engine limitation, reflections are only possible with a generic environment map ( a texture ), but not as real time rendering of the outside world.

It's not really related to DX10 vs DX9 (although DX10 would allow for more efficient algorithms to render true reflections), but the engine has to be specifically programmed to allow this.
