Move the simobjects/misc folder
« on: January 29, 2019, 09:55:11 am »
Goodmorning Umberto,
using Level2 on P3D, is it possible to move the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Addon Manager\Simobjects\Misc" to another drive and specify the new path in the add-on.xml?
I know it will work for sure, but what about future updates?
Thanks!

Please don't do that, because it will totally screw up updates and make GSX inoperable right now, since it needs to know where to find objects, and there's a registry key our installer sets, but it's based on the assumption all Simobjects are located together within the Addon Manager folder.

Instead, it's totally safe to move the *whole* Addon Manager to a different drive, but it must be done in the proper way, and the ONLY one that works is:

- Uninstall every FSDT product, both GSX and sceneries.

- Reply YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Addon Manager ?". This is the most important step

- Reinstall all the products you uninstalled before, which will now ask you for a destination folder, which can be on any drive. If you forget to reply YES to the previous step, you won't able to choose another folder.

- From the 2nd product you install, the 1st folder you chose in the previous setup will be used for all subsequent installs.

Basically, you can install FSDT anywhere you like, but they must all stay together, and their relative folder paths structure shouldn't be changed.
