Delay between passenger load and baggage load
« on: November 04, 2018, 02:38:11 pm »
The baggage cart train seems to start from a central position at the airport not before the passenger boarding (by bus in my case) has been finished. Since the baggage cart train is moving very slowly (realistic but not helpful in this situation) it can take more than five minutes after the passenger bus has left until it arrives at the aircraft at a remote position at a large airport.

The baggage loading should rather be done simultaneously with the passenger boarding or at least the baggage cart train should already be waiting near the aircraft when the passenger load finishes.

GSX will use the closest parking of the "vehicle" kind. If the scenery has been designed properly, there should be some vehicle parkings with proper vehicle paths connecting to each terminal and not very far from terminals.

If there are no such parking, GSX will search the whole airport for a parking to spawn the loaders from so, if they take 5 minutes to arrive, it's likely the airport you are using doesn't include vehicle parkings close to each terminal, as it usually is in real life.

I see. But maybe GSX could cater for situations like this by "misusing" a free nearby aircraft parking if it detects that no vehicle parking is available. Just as it does with taxiways if no vehicle paths are available.

That's how GSX initially worked, some years ago. It tried to find random parking which are reasonably close to your own, but not too close that loaders would pop-up in front of you.

But some airport AFCAD were so badly programmed that no parkings could be found nearby that could meet both conditions, so loaders never arrived so we later updated GSX that it will search the whole airport, if no nearby and connected parking is found.

Ralph,
Download ADE175, it is free https://www.fsdeveloper.com
Just add vehicule parking where you need on your airport afcad file.
Then GSX will use it

Thanks! I'll take a look at it.

Please excuse me reactivating this thread.

While I am quite satisfied with GSX and the immersion it adds to the sim, this is still a major annoyance for me, making the boarding function of GSX almost unusable at several airports.
The problem is that the baggage carts start to move away from the aircraft when the boarding starts. They move to some remote parking space and then at some point turn back to the aircraft. Since the baggage carts are moving extremly slowly the whole journey of the carts can easily take ten minutes at some large airports.
I understand that this is caused by afcads not including proper vehicle parking spaces. But I think GSX should cater for situations like this with a reasonable solution (rather than the user having to fiddle with addon airports afcads). Such addon airports are not rare exceptions. I have this happening at Simwings' LEMD, Flytampa's EHAM and Aerosoft's EDDF to name just a few.

What about leaving the baggage carts at their initial positions and let them move to the cargo doors directly from there? Just as it is with the deboarding procedure. You could make that an option in the settings - either as a general setting or as a specific setting for each customized gate.

The problem is that the baggage carts start to move away from the aircraft when the boarding starts. They move to some remote parking space and then at some point turn back to the aircraft.

First, they are not the same loaders.

As soon as they go away, different full loaders have already started coming from a terminal, and this is obviously more realistic than having the empty loaders auto-magically pop-up around the airplane and magically become full, just because you decided to start boarding, instead of deboarding. We cannot possibly know if you are starting with Boarding. If you start with Boarding, they can be empty and go directly from your airplane, but if you start with Boarding, they must come from somewhere else, full of bags, and it would look silly if they materialize in front of you already full.

Long ago, GSX had a limit over where to search from a suitable place to have the full loaders to appear. It searched for parkings not in front of you, but not so far that would require waiting too long. However, following many user reports of faulty AFCAD with not just A SINGLE vehicle parking spot, we had to increase the search range, up to the whole airport, otherwise could find any place to start from. No, we cannot just place them anywhere, because the starting point *must* be part of the AFCAD layout, otherwise nothing can guaranteed the vehicles won't end up walking over grass, which is what would happen if we, for example, decided to place them, let's say, 500 meters at most away from the airplane if there's no better parking.

So could you please make the speed of the baggage carts customizable - like the follow-me?
