Uninstall/reinstall P3Dv4.4
« on: December 25, 2018, 12:30:39 am »
When I uninstalled and reinstalled P3Dv4 about a month ago I just moved all my addons (FSDT, Flightbeam, FTX, Megascenery and many others) out of the P3D folder and then moved them back once P3D was installed.  P3D found the ones with xml entries, FTX Central found the Orbx scenery and some I had to add manually.  The end result was that my frame rates plummeted. Where I was getting 50+ frames in FSDT and Flightbeam sceneries when I first started using P3Dv4 when it was first released I'm now averaging about 5 fps.  I'm wondering if I should just start from scratch and reinstall P3D and each addon one at a time.  I don't know if it was my short cut method of moving my sceneries that caused the problem but it seems like a system with my specs should perform much better than it is now.

Moving sceneries cannot possibly have any effect on this. But of course, I cannot possibly be sure what you did to "move". Generally, you cannot move any FSDT scenery, the only solution that works is the one explained in this post:

Before I uninstalled P3D I moved FSDT sceneries to a temp folder out of P3D on the same drive, then after reinstalling P3D I moved it back to its original location in P3D.  I have P3D on a 500GB SSD so I don't know that installing FSDT on a different drive would help my performance any.  Since my original post I have uninstalled/reinstalled P3D again, first uninstalling FSDT and Flightbeam sceneries and then reinstalling into P3D.  My frame rates at KDFW are running 12-25 in mild weather using Active Sky with default clouds but if there is rain or snow it turns into a slide show.  I can't even taxi without spinning around.  When I first installed P3Dv4.1 my performance was very good and I was using an EVGA 680GTX.  It seems with each update of P3Dv4 my performance has gotten worse.  Maybe it has something to do with my settings.  Is there a guide to show the best settings to use for my Graphics.  I know when I was using FSX I used a guide from Kostas Tweeks that showed what changes to make in Invidia Inspector that helped performance quite a bit.  Maybe I should look into overclocking.

You have a serious installation problem of the sim, it's not something you can fix/improve just by moving a scenery into a faster drive, that will only give you marginal gains.

FYI, I can run P3D 4.4 at 60+ fps on my LAPTOP (granted, it's a good Laptop, with an GTX 1080 card but, any desktop with the same card should run at least the same or better ) so, clearly, something very wrong is happening in your system.

The only thing I can suggest, is to do a really clean install, doing the following:

- Uninstall ALL your 3rd party addons using their uninstallers, if they come with one (look in the "Program and Features" section of the Windows Control Panel)

- Uninstall the simulator.

- Remove ALL these folders:

%APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4
%PROGRAMDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

Documents\Prepar3D v4 Files
Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons

This is a really clean install. After doing that, reinstall the sim and check your performances with NO ADDONS installer.
