Passengers reflected in terminal windows
« on: December 09, 2018, 04:09:41 pm »
A real oddity, I must say. Has anyone else experienced it?
When boarding and deboarding pax via jetways I can see them all (animated) reflected huge on terminal windows.

The airport is Drzewiecki Design EPKK v2 in P3Dv4.3.
Please see the attached image.

What might be the cause of this phenomenon?
I guess it may have something to do with the airport textures/features.
Otherwise I would see it everywhere, which is not the case.

I guess Umberto and forum members may have thought it was a joke on my side.
I would probably think the same.  ;)

But it is really happening. I can't stop wondering how on Earth the GSX pax are projected on the terminal glass walls!
I made a short video showing it happen. Below is a YouTube link to it.
The scenery is Drzewiecki Design EPKKv2.

I'm not sure why you think this is a problem. Realtime reflections in P3D have been added in 2015 and, usually, users complain when they don't work:

https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/480523-aircraft-that-use-the-new-dynamic-reflections/

If, instead, your question is not why passengers appears, but only why they show up so big, it's likely because the reflection calculations are not as precise as the ones made by the actual in-sim rendering, so it seems they are skipping some transformation factor used by the passenger skinned meshes.

Are passenger showing up normally in the sim (not the reflections) ?

I have the impression it is so unreal to see huge holograms on airport buildings of people who are hidden somewhere in the jetway. I have never seen anything like this in real world.
I am sitting in the cockpit preparing a flight and in front of my eyes there is a huge spectacle projected on the wall. It looks terrible and I thought it isn't as it should be?

Are passenger showing up normally in the sim (not the reflections) ?
Yes, certainly, I have no problems to see them in the jetway.

The fact that noboby complained about it before (at least not that I'm aware of) could mean two things:
- people like it (hard to believe though)
- I am the first one to have noticed it (ever harder to believe)

Another interesting question is why I am not seeing it at all airports.
Then what conditions must be met to cause it. Is it a custom reflection model used by the airport's developer?

I am not suggesting it is GSX's 'fault'.
Just trying to find a reason and really hoping to get rid of the effect.

EPKK is my local airport and I fly quite a lot from/to it.

That's exactly the opposite: it's happening because the airport does not use a custom reflection texture, which is the only way to allow to the scenery to show realtime reflections to begin with.

As I've said, it seems the reflection calculations in the sim don't take into account exactly the same transformation factors used by the normal rendering, possibly for performance reasons.

So it looks like there is nothing that can be done about it?
Flying from EPKK will have to mean watching this unsightly spectacle?

Out of interest: can you guess why no other animations are projected on the walls (e.g. opening doors, operating jetway, cars, baggage loaders, catering trucks, even the boarding crew by the way) and only the jetway pax?
This is something my analytical mind is trying to comprehend.  :P

Thank you for your involvement.

You have plenty of options:

- Report the reflection bug to LM, maybe they'll look into it for a future update.

- Ask the scenery developer to provide a scenery version or a configuration option with a custom reflection map, which will disable the dynamic reflections

- Turn off reflections in the Simulator graphic options

- Disable the "Estimate Passengers number" option in GSX, and always reply 0 passengers when parked directly over a reflective glass surface.

In case someone finds it useful, I would like to report that turning Prepar3D's setting of Dynamic reflections from ultra or high down to medium removes these silly animations hologram, while still leaving some effects on reflective surfaces.
