The problem doesn't have anything to do with Live Update.
It's likely Windows set a wrong compatibility setting in the registry by itself from the last time you ran the sim (totally unrelated to our software), usually because it didn't shutdown cleanly, and this sometimes results in the sim not starting on the next start.
We fix this by clearing that wrong registry setting with the Live Update so, if you run it again, it might just fix the problem.
It's best if you try after a Windows restart too.
