a)you say FSDT products should not be installed into the rootfolder of FSX but why does the FSDT dialogbox still let us simmers chose between programm86 and and another path, i.e. the folder of FSX?
Because it correctly let you the
freedom to install whenever you want, for example on another drive. Users have been asking for ages the ability to install inside any folder they like, now it's there. Not really "now"...it's there since last year.
And, it's not that you CANNOT choose the FSX folder. It's just that, now that you can install everywhere, the FSX folder is probably the worse possible choice.
But you said it was "strange" the installation went into FSX. It's not strange: YOU told it to do so, since if you say it offered a choice, it means you are using the latest installer, then one that lets you choose the folder so, you chose, and you chose FSX. Why "strange", then ? It did what you told.
Normally addons are installed into FSX and not into programm86. And my FSX is on D/
There's no "rule" that says an addon must be installed inside FSX: if it's designed to be installed anywhere, it CAN be installed anywhere. Of course, it must START with a default so, the "C:\Program Files x86\Addon Manager" is the most standard one, so it's the most sensible choice, unless you don't have enough space on C:, in that case, you would choose D:\Addon Manager, E:\Addon Manager, etc.
The place where FSX is installed into is entirely irrelevant. If can be installed anywhere.
b)you mention "newest installer". Do you mean with newest "installer" the newest FSDT sceneries, and the newest stand alone Addon manager downloadable from your site? ( the "installer" resides in the sceneries, and are not separate, ok?)
It means the only one available on our site, which is always the newest one. The Stand-Alone Addon Manager is not required, because it's included with all the installers.
I only asked, because it wasn't clear from your message about the "scenery ending up inside FSX", as it was by accident so, I asked because, if it went there automatically, it means you used an OLDER installer (one that didn't let you choose, and always installed INTO FSX automatically) but, if you had an installer that let you choose, and it ended up inside the FSX folder, it's only because you said so.
But my previous message, already included everything you needed to do to reinstall, which was:
- Uninstall everything from FSDT and
reply YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Addon Manager"- Reinstall everything using ONLY the current version of the installers. Do not use an older installer you might have downloaded in the past.
The "reply YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Addon Manager" is important, and is what allows you to Undo your past choice of installing INTO FSX, which (although it works), is not the best option.
