GSX not working in fsx **SOLVED**
« on: May 03, 2018, 08:39:37 am »
When I purchased GSX about 2months ago it was working normally & I think it's a great addon when it works.  However GSX no longer works. Couatl no longer shows in the drop down list. Add on Manager is there and says I have GSX in trial mode, but I can't see it at all and have paid for the full version. Registering or reinstalling using the Addon manager radio buttons has no effect. I have reinstalled several times from the gsx_fsx_setup.exe file and it asks for my registration number and appears to install normally. When I start fsx it asks me to run couatl but when fsx loads couatl isnt in the Add-ons drop down menu.
Any advice much appreciated. i have reinstalled, restarted several times & read other posts in the forum with similar issues.
Any advice greatly appreciated,
 many thanks
Ian

if you are missing the Addon Manager or the GSX menu (or both) from the "Addons" menu of the sim, the only possible reasons are either the antivirus blocking the update, or a problem with your VC++ libraries, which might be missing/corrupted, even by something not related to flight sim.

Disabling the antivirus while installing its NOT enough. In addition to that, when the antivirus is suspected to be the cause of the problem (it's the more common one), you MUST also configure it to exclude the Addon Manager folder before starting the sim.

About missing/corrupted VC++ libraries. They are the 2005 SP1, the 2013 and the 2015 version. Our software doesn't require all of them but, indirectly, Simconnect itself requires it so, if one of them it's missing, you'll have lots of issues, and not just with our software.

The linked thread named "Addon Manager not showing up in P3Dv4 **SOLVED**, was quite exhaustive:

Yes but I can see the Addon Manager. dont have preparethree D  so didnt read those posts, however exhaustive they may have been. Dont think its the antivirus since that let me install GSX in the first place. I'll check the VC libraries  Thanks for the reply,

The libraries required are the same, just the x86 version, instead of the x64 version but, the general suggestion is to uninstall/reinstall all of them.

Thanks for this. I was reluctant to uninstall/reinstall all the Microsoft Visual C++ libraries as I'm not very confident about messing with these files, so I uninstalled all the GSX files with an uninstaller in hunter mode (not the windows one) then downloaded the gsx_fsx-setup.exe file again from the website. Interestingly this time it was 24Mb larger than the previous version downloaded in January! That seems to heve done the trick and gsx is working again,
thanks for the advice,
 Ian

Of course it's larger: we *always* update the full installer with all the things we add through the Live Updater. But of course, if you ran the Live Updater, you already had all those files already.
