Your message is not very clear.
Are you saying the docking system has changed in its appearance from an earlier version, and it's now more difficult to see, or it's just difficult to see ?
You say "unless I zoom in quite a bit", but that doesn't say much without knowing the zoom level you are normally accustomed to. We tend to optimize and test sceneries assuming a zoom level of about 0.60/0.70, which is the universally acknowledged by the community to be closest to a natural view.
And, the readability also depends by your screen resolution and your image settings, especially antialiasing. The docking system is modeled in its exact real world size so, you can act on your screen resolution and antialiasing, but other than that, there's not much we can do to improve visibility on every system, and if you have to zoom in to read it on your system, then just do it, nothing wrong with that, the zoom control is there just for that reason.
