Scenery Analysis Tools?
« on: November 02, 2017, 04:27:18 pm »
Hi - I recently received g3d.dll related crashes approaching the Hawaiian islands from KLAS. I know this is usually a scenery related issue. I have the latest FSUIPC installed that traps at least one type of g3d.dll (I think that feature was added back in 2011).

To try and troubleshoot, I added to my [SCENERY] section of the fsx.cfg a line MissingLibraryAlert=1 and received two alerts during the flight that I acknowledged and the flight continued without crashing. The dialog box didn't easily allow diciphering what code the alert was showing me.  I don't believe it is FSDT is the issue - I have PHNL and the Hawaiian Island sets 1 & 2 installed, but they are fresh installs. The only other scenery is the old Aerosoft Dillingham.

My question is are there tools we can use to examine our scenery sets to see which might be problematic? On this topic the common solution seems to be "turn-on and off" scenery to see what is conflicting...but I have over 300+ sceneries installed, although not all at once since I use SIM NG to select sceneries for each flight. In my setup, I group all Hawaiian airports together so I could isolate Dillingham to see if that is the offending item. But my question is a larger one about the ability to review any scenery for potential missing elements or faults.

Thanks in advance, Scott

It would be useful if you could post the error code, regardless how cryptic it might look like.

Hi - The popup for the missing scenery dialog did not appear this time (same flight, KLAS to PHLI), but the event viewer showed:

Ok, I learned how to post an image. These were the only two scenery library missing prompts I received. Both acknowledged and flight completed to PHLI.

Regret my lack of familiarity with posting images.

The error code clearly indicates the problem doesn't have anything to do with any of our sceneries. Searching for one of the GUIDs reported by the missing library alert:

21f6c7fb-74f2-454d-84b5-9e25024681c1

Returns this thread on FSdeveloper:

Refers to some freeware addons, which maybe you installed and forgot about it.

Umberto - thank you for looking at this and providing the link. I consider this issue closed. Scott
