Question about the airbrake fix
« on: January 09, 2009, 06:00:01 pm »
I was wondering if the airbrake/spoiler fix found here http://fsxblueangels.com/downloads.html has anny effect on the flying of the f18 overall besides airbraking?  Does anyone know exactly what it changes?  Is it reversible?  I just wanna make sure iit wont do anything besides keeping the plane from pulling up.

Sorry I know im kinda paranoid lol.

Thanks a lot in advance.

No, the only effect that the airbrake effect fixes is the life created by the deployment of the airbrake.  If you open up the .AIR file, you will notice that there is an option listed as "Spoiler Lift".  That value is simply set to zero.  Nothing else is changed.  If you know how to alter .AIR files, then the change is reversable.  If you don't, I would advise making a backup copy of your .AIR file.  Hope this helps.

Sounds great.  Thank you very much.  Im gonna go look now.

By the way this forum is awesome.  Its the only one that talks about the details of the f-18 which is my favorite plane in the game.

Edit: Ok I tryed to open up notepad the encoding isnt supported or w.e so ya know it looks all crazy.
What program is suppposed to be used to open up and air file?

You shouldn't have to open the air file to change anything.  All you should have to do is drop the supplied air file into the F18 folder.  I assure you no other flight characteristic was changed.  However, if you still want to open the .AIR file, I can get you the name of the software.  I don't have the info right now, but I will as soon as I have access to it.

That would be great.  The thing is i might want to mess around with different settings.

Sorry about that.  Got a little busy the last couple of days and got sidetracked.  Hope all goes well.  Good Luck!

Just a quick note to say that if you are editing the airfile yourself, you'll actually need to set 2 parameters to stop the nose lift. This should work for any aircraft where you have this type of airbrake problem:

CL_ds Lift - Spoilers=0
Cm_ds Pitch Moment - Spoilers=0

(If you only set the spoiler lift, you'll still get a little bit of nose-up.)

P.S. The FSXBlueAngels airfile that Jimi has put up for download has both settings amended and works perfectly for the F18, but those two airfile settings will let you do the trick for other aircraft too.
