Catering
« on: September 18, 2016, 08:28:44 pm »
So I'm at SEA today and I noticed a little something.  So the airlines like Alaska put 1 catering vehicle on the aft left door and 1 at the front right door. Other times, they have 1 catering vehicle. Is there any way to do this is GSX where it goes to the aft left and front right or to have just 1 catering vehicle?

The choice of the catering vehicle is driven mainly by the airplane service door's height. If the door is lower than a certain altitude (which is different for every vehicle), no truck will appear.

Depending on load, it's possible that with some planes you might not have a front vehicle, because only the front door was under the height threshold for the chosen vehicle (because most airplanes are slightly pitched down), so it looks "random", but it's not.

Alright, I'm just going to clarify myself. When I posted this, I was at Seattle IRL. I noticed that all of the airlines had at least 1 catering vehicle on the aft left door. If they needed another catering vehicle then it went to the front right door. They never had a catering vehicle on the aft right door. Is there any way in GSX to choose if we are going on a short enough flight for 1 catering vehicle, and that it goes to the aft left door instead of those stairs. If we are going on a long enough flight for 2 and we need food on the flight, is there a way to choose 2 catering vehicles and 1 goes to aft left and 1 goes to front right? I noticed that on 757 and higher, that they did, indeed, go to where they go presently in GSX. On the 737 and A320 series, they went to the doors that I've been talking about.

I don't know if KSEA is unusual but, if you simply Google for "airport catering" images, you'll find plenty of them with catering vehicles on the aft right door, for example:

Most of the pictures I've posted are in fact 737 and A320. Aft right door.

You can try using the GSX airplane configuration utility, to remove the Passenger Door 4 and move the Catering door there. Not sure if it will work correctly (you surely have to rotate the door 180 degrees, having the green arrow pointing "outside"), but you can try.
