Upgrading for FSX
« on: December 16, 2008, 02:54:59 pm »
Hello everyone

Now I'm using a computer has a AMD64 6000+ 3.02GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8600GT 256MB and WinXP

I want to upgrade only my graphics card which has a 1GB memory and 512bit. Is this upraging sufficient to run FSX smoothly with add-onn aircraft like PMDG, add-on sceneries and full AI? Do I have to upgrade my CPU or RAM or even operating system?

Any experience and thoughts would be appreciated!

Alp

Personally, I would skip FSX and use FS9.  You'll get better frame rates, and you can get it for around $20 on Amazon.  Cheaper than a new video card. ;)

Alp I think the 512 megs of ram on a new video card will help with fsx and of course a lot on other games I believe its a good investment but fsx depends so heavy on the cpu speed its been awhile since I owned a amd system. I think that's best cpu you can put on that motherboard which is the 6000 socket am2 the others are Socket AM2+ but honestly to see a big difference you would have to get the fastest cpu you can afford.

Videocards, especially videoRAM, have nothing to do with improving performance in FSX. CPU is the only way to go. However, since FSX is transitional platform, there are still issues with the performance even with new I7-920 machines.
